A handy way of finding and deleting the apps that are taking up the most space is to go to Settings > General > iPhone Storage .

After a few seconds youll see a list of apps arranged by the space they take up, with the biggest space hogs at the top probably your Photos and Music apps, since the figures includes media that the app stores/organises.

Scroll through the list and be brutal. If an app you rarely use is taking up 300MB of space then delete it you can always download it again for free if you want to. Once youve bought something its tied to your Apple ID so Apple knows you own it.

iOS shows when you last used each app, which can help when seeking apps that dont justify their size theres a big game on our list thats never been used, so thats an obvious candidate for the chop.

Reclaim Space Taken Up By Videos

Some of the above photo tips apply to videos stored in your device’s photo library. However, there are other ways to prevent video content from eating up storage space. For example, you can customize the resolution and frame rate of recorded video to reduce the file size in Settings -> Camera -> Record Video.

Elsewhere, if you regularly download Apple Fitness+ videos to your âiPhoneâ or âiPadâ, check the recommendations in Settings -> General -> iPhone Storage and you should see them listed under Review Downloaded Videos, where you’ll be able to delete them individually or in bulk.

If you have an Apple TV+ subscription, or you’ve rented or purchased movies via iTunes, you can download videos using Apple’s TV app to watch them offline. However, if you’re looking to save space, make sure that you’ve selected Fast Downloads in Settings -> TV -> Cellular Data â it means lower quality videos, but they use less storage.

Set Messages To Automatically Delete

The best thing about Snapchat is that every message you send on it automatically deletes itself after it’s opened, never wasting any of your local storage. That’s not the same for Messages, unless you set them to expire.

While they won’t disappear immediately, you can set expiration time for messages where they’re automatically cleared every 30 days or every year. Just go to Settings > Messages and down under “Message History” tap on “Keep Messages” and set the time you want.

But why stop at having texts automatically deleted? Do the same for Audio Messages, which is also within the Messages settings page. Set the expiration on Audio Messages to two minutes instead of never.

How to find and remove

When youre checking out how much storage youve used on your iPhone, you might notice a gray section labeled Other. About Cached Files In Other

The Finder and iTunes categorize cached music, videos, and photos as Other instead of actual songs, videos, or photos. Cached files are created when you stream or view content like music, videos, and photos. When you stream music or video, that content is stored as cached files on your device so you can quickly access it again.

Your device automatically removes cached files and temporary files when your device needs more space.

Why Would You Clear iPhone Cache

The iPhone cache is an important and useful part of the device. It contains files that you need and, in some cases, speed up your phone. That said, there are two major reasons to clear the iPhone cache.

First, cached files take up storage space on the iPhone, and, over time, they add up. If you want to free up storage space on your iPhone, clearing the cache is one way to do it. Some of this is done automatically by iOS, but you can also do it manually.

The other reason to clear the iPhone cache is that cached files sometimes slow down the phone or cause things to behave in ways you don’t want.

There are several different kinds of caches on the iPhone. As a result, there’s not a single step you can take to clear all types of cache. Read on for instructions on the different ways to clear iPhone cache.

You can also set up your iPhone so that it saves smaller photos while storing the original, larger resolution images in iCloud, thus saving space. Under Settings, head to and make sure theres a checkmark next to Optimize iPhone Storage to turn that option on.
