Apples iPhone 11 is a killer phone. It was the best-selling iPhone in 2019 and because it will still be available to buy in 2020 and beyond, it will likely retain this status until well into 2021.
Apple is brilliant with software updates too, so if you dont need to worry about that the iPhone 11 will get iOS updates until well into the late-2020s. The only thing missing, really, is support for 5G. If you can live with 5G on your iPhone, the iPhone is still a great buy in 2021, if youre looking for great value for money.
Internally, you have all the specs and performance youll ever need. Apples A13 CPU is a monster even by 2021s standards. And while it isnt quite as potent as Apples newer A14 CPU, it will still very much take care of business. For the average user, the A13 is already WAY more than you need.

My only slight issue with the iPhone 11 is its camera you do have better options available inside cheaper phones now like the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S10e. And all of these phones run 5G too, so theyre slightly more future-proofed than the iPhone 11.

Both iPhones share very much the same design language, but the iPhone 12 has the edge for being a slightly sleeker and more aesthetically exciting device.
The iPhone 11’s design is very similar to what Apple’s been doing since the iPhone X, which a nearly all-screen front , rounded corners, curved aluminium sides, and a glossy glass back. It’s available in six colours: Purple, Yellow, Green, Black, White, and Red.
Its 150.9×75.7×8.3mm dimensions mean its certainly not small in the hand, and it weighs 194 grams . It’s water resistant for immersion up to a depth of 2 metres for up to 30 minutes.
The iPhone 12 includes the exact same size of screen , but its dimensions are just 146.7×71.5×7.4mm and it weighs noticeably less at 162 grams .
The differences in size might be slight, but they add to a major difference in volume. That, plus the lower weight, makes a big difference to usability it’s easier to manipulate in one hand safely.
The difference in size is largely down to the iPhone 12 having thinner bezels at the edges of the screen, plus flat sides instead of curved. This means sharper edges where the sides meet the back, but they’re perfectly comfortable to hold there’s a subtle curve to them. Again, the sides are aluminium, and the back is glossy glass. The iPhone 12 comes in Blue, Green, Red, White, and Black colours.
There’s no question the iPhone 12 is the winner on design, not that the iPhone 11 is poor by any means.

That’s just our estimate, but means there’s no big danger in buying and being suddenly left behind, but the iPhone 12 guarantees you the most longevity.
There is one area where the iPhone 12 might be a clear winner for you, though: it has 5G, and the iPhone 11 does not. In the US, that includes mmWave super-super-fast 5G support in the rest of the world, it’s just regular boring blisteringly fast 5G.
Of course, not everywhere has 5G, and if you’re not somewhere you can currently make use of it, that makes this another future-proofing question. If you’ll keep the phone for years, are you happy committing that you’ll never want 5G?

All iPhones are great for taking casual photos and videos, but if you are particularly passionate about making this kind of media or use the camera for professional purposes, the new features in the iPhone 13 leave the iPhone 11 and, to some extent, the iPhone 12 in the dust. The aforementioned change in the rear camera lens placement is to accommodate a new sensor-shift optical image stabilization system that the iPhone 11 doesnt have, so your images will be steadier and sharper. Both phones have Apples excellent Night mode for low-light shots, but the iPhone 13s is a bit better due to its upgraded camera sensors.
