How To Check iPhone Data Usage

This is the first question you need to answer before continuing. Figuring out what iPhone you have starts here, iOS 10.3 expedited figuring this out, and the same steps apply for iOS 14 and iOS 15. To figure out what iOS your iPhone is running:

  • Open the Settingsapp.
  • Where it says Software Version, youll see what iOS you have.
  • Depending on the iOS you have, select either Part 1 or Part 2 below.
  • Find The A Model Number On All iPhones

In fact, if you can’t read the text on the back of an iPhone or it isn’t there, you can just launch the Settings app and then navigate to General > About > Model.

From there, tap once on Model to reveal the phone’s ‘A’ model number. Additionally, you can find the rough size of your iPhone’s storage capacity by opening the Settings app in iOS and navigating to General > About > Capacity.

If Youre On A Budget: iPhone Se

The iPhone SE is more than just a great cheap phoneits a great phone in its own right, and anyone buying a new iPhone should at least consider it. Even though its smaller than the other phones in Apples lineup , it uses a modern processor thats fast enough for pretty much any task. It also takes very good photos, and it offers all of this while costing $400 less than the 128 GB iPhone 13. If you generally like smaller devices, prefer using a fingerprint instead of Face ID to unlock, or simply dont want to pay the premium for a larger iPhone, the SE is a great option.

Despite its lower price, the iPhone SE should last you for years. It uses the same A13 Bionic processor as 2019s iPhone 11 and 11 Pro, and it ran apps and played games without any slowdowns or hiccups in our testing. And Apple has shown a commitment to extending the life of its iOS handsets through software updates for two or three years longer than equivalent Android phones like Googles Pixel series or Samsungs Galaxy series enjoy 2015s iPhone 6s, for example, can still run 2021s iOS 15. We expect a similar lifespan for the iPhone SE.

Since the iPhone SE lacks Night Mode, its performance in taking low-light photos falls far shortif you take a lot of pictures at night or in dark environments, youll be far happier with the iPhone 13 or iPhone 13 mini.

How To Check What iPhone You Have

    1. Open the Settings app and then tap General.

    2. At the top of the General page, tap About.

    3. If your iPhone is running iOS 12.2 or later, you should see the Model Name listed on the third line.

    4. Underneath the Model Name, a Model Number is listed. However, don’t just trust the code listed next to Model Number. For whatever reason, Apple doesn’t actually list the model number by default that’s the SKU code, which won’t help you here. Instead, tap that SKU code, and it’ll be replaced by your actual model number, which is a shorter code that starts with an “A.”

Quick tip: If you have an older iPhone that can’t upgrade to iOS 12.2, you’ll have to do a little more sleuthing. You won’t see an entry for the model name. Use the model number to look up your model name in the list below.

Check For The Model Number On Your iPhone

iPhone model numbers are always printed on the phones body. The only question is where, as the locations vary depending on the iPhones version.

Although this might change in the future, there are two common locations where manufacturers choose to print the model number:

  • The back side of your iPhone The iPad, iPod touch, iPhone 7, and its earlier versions all have their model numbers on the back.
  • The SIM tray The iPhone 8 and newer versions have their model number printed on the SIM tray. Simply remove your iPhones SIM tray and have a look in its tray slot. Make sure that you have light overhead because, otherwise, you wont be able to see the number. The full model number is located on the upper side of the SIM tray.
  • In case you dont know, the iPhone model numbers always start with an A and have four digits next to it. For example, A1920 is an iPhone model number.

Small Enough For Most Pockets: iPhone 13 Mini

Almost everything about the iPhone 13 also holds true for the appropriately named iPhone 13 mini, which is a fully modern, non-budget iPhone that happens to be smaller. It may feel too small if youve gotten used to the size of a bigger iPhone, but its likely to be a welcome relief for anyone who has been holding on to an iPhone 7, 8, or second-generation SE.

The iPhone 13 mini has the same processor, cameras, and design as the iPhone 13. Its just mini-er. The edge-to-edge OLED screen measures 5.4 inches on the diagonal, larger than the iPhone 7, 8, or SEs display, yet the body is about ¼ inch shorter and inch narrower. For many people, this size will allow for one-handed typing, a better grip, or the ability to fit the phone into a pocket or purse that couldnt accommodate a larger one.

The 13 mini makes some trade-offs for that smaller size, with battery life at the top of the list. In the Geekbench diagnostic tests we ran, the battery lasted about 72% as long as the iPhone 13s. If youre planning on heavier use, make sure you have a way to charge up during the day. MagSafe, as mentioned above, is an option, although the iPhone 13 mini is limited to 12-watt charging rather than the 15-watt speed on the rest of the lineup. Additionally, some people may find the narrower on-screen keyboard to be too small, especially if theyre coming from a larger screen.

Easiest Way To Tell Which iPhone Model You Have

How to erase your iPhone | Apple Support

OK, so whats the easiest way to find out which iPhone model you have? Just do the following:

  • On the iPhone in question, open the Settings app.
  • Tap General.
  • Tap About.
  • On the About screen youll be able to find all the details about which iPhone you have in the top set of boxes.
  • A few things to keep in mind:

    • Do NOT believe what the Name box says on the About screen. True, this name defaults to the name of the iPhone model you have, but anyone can change the name field to read anything they want. They could change the iPhone 7s name field to read iPhone 8 or Bobs iPhone if they want to.
    • What they cant change is the Model Name of the device. This name is set by the iPhone hardware and is the true representation of the iPhone you have. If your Model Name says iPhone X you have an iPhone X.
    • The other thing you want to check is the Capacity field in the second group of boxes. This will tell you the capacity of the iPhone you have. It will either say 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB, 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB, or 512 GB. Whatever it says is the maximum storage space the iPhone you are holding has.
    • Save

Beyond this, you have other differences between iPhone models. For example, only a select few iPhones have OLED displays. And all iPhones from the iPhone X onwards DO NOT have a home button. The last iPhone to carry TouchID and a home button was the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.

How To Know iPhone Model Number Without Turning It On

On iPhone 8 and later, the model number is etched on the upper side of the SIM tray cavity. You can use a SIM ejector tool to remove the SIM tray and then look inside the SIM tray slot. You will need to look closely using a magnifying glass or the macro camera on your phone to see the iPhone model number. Check out the screenshot below.

Now again, once you know the model number of your device, use the table below to match the model number and find out which iPhone you own. This is the easiest method to know the iPhone youre using without turning on your device. It could come in handy when youve broken your screen or cant power up the device due to battery drainage issues. This way, you can learn the model number and order any replacement parts if you want.

Check the iPhone Model Number Printed on the Back

If you are using an older iPhone model, another quick way to find the model number is to flip the smartphone around. You can find the model number printed at the bottom of the back panel. A is the first character on all iPhone model numbers. So, make sure to compare the model number with the number that appears on the About settings page to make sure the two match up.

Its worth pointing out that iPhone 8/ 8 Plus, iPhone X, and later models no longer have the model number printed on the back panel. So, you will have to rely on the SIM tray method described above to find the model number of your new iPhone.

Is It A Good Time To Buy

Yep. Apple just debuted the iPhone 13 range, so you’re not going to see a new iPhone until next September .

If you don’t really want to spend the money to get a new iPhone, consider a fresh battery. If the biggest issues with your aging iPhone revolve around the battery, then replacing it might make it feel brand-new. Replacements for older iPhones are $49 and $69 for newer models. If that doesn’t do the trick, read our guide on selling your iPhone to get the most money out of it.

On Your iPhone: Look On The Back For The A Number

You can tell what iPhone you have by looking for the A number printed on the phones back.

This method applies to the iPhone 7 or earlier models. The number begins with the letter A, with the label Model beside it.

If the number is too small for your naked eye, a magnifying glass can come in handy. The iPhone 8 and newer models dont have the A number printed on the back. That means if you cant find this number on the back of your device, you can be sure you have an iPhone 8 or later version.

For an iPhone 8 or later, youll need to remove the SIM tray and look for the number on the upper side of the SIM tray slot. Find a place with bright light overhead to see the number.

The Biggest iPhone With The Best Cameras: iPhone 13 Pro Max

What iPhone do I have? Here

You probably already know if youre a big-screen person or pro-phone person, and if you arent one, you dont have a lot of reasons to get the Pro Max version of the iPhone 13. We think almost anyone will find the iPhone 13s screen to be roomy enough, but the iPhone 13 Pro Max has an even larger, 6.7-inch screen that makes games easier to play, video more pleasant to watch, and typing feel less cramped. The screen is even bigger than those on older large phones such as the iPhone XS Max and 11 Pro Max, but the body has grown only a few millimeters. And thanks to that bigger screen and body, theres more room inside the iPhone 13 Pro Max for a larger, longer-lasting battery than in the other iPhone 13 models. The cameras on the Pro models are better, too, and theres one more of them . These Pro models also support ProMotion, Apples variable-refresh-rate screen technology, which is another nice-to-have but not altogether necessary feature.

To get fair comparisons, we ran battery stress tests with the Geekbench 4 diagnostic app. The larger iPhone 13 Pro Max lasted for 6 hours 58 minutes with the screen brightness turned all the way up, whereas the iPhone 13 survived for 5 hours 42 minutes in our measurements . The larger body has its drawbacks, though, as many people will find the 13 Pro Max too big for their hands, their pockets, or both.

    Legal Battles Over Brand Name

How To Enable Siri On iPhone 13

In Mexico, the trademark iFone was registered in 2003 by a communications systems and services company, iFone. Apple tried to gain control over its brand name, but a Mexican court denied the request. The case began in 2009, when the Mexican firm sued Apple. The Supreme Court of Mexico upheld that iFone is the rightful owner and held that Apple iPhone is a trademark violation.

In the Philippines, Solid Group launched the MyPhone brand in 2007. Stylized as “my|phone”, Solid Broadband filed a trademark application of that brand. Apple later filed a trademark case at the Intellectual Property Office of the Philippines against Solid Broadband’s MyPhone for “confusingly similar” to the iPhone and that it may likely “deceive” or “cause confusion” among consumers. Apple lost the trademark battle to Solid Group in a 2015 decision made by IPO director Nathaniel Arevalo, who also reportedly said that it was unlikely that consumers would be confused between the “iPhone” and the “MyPhone”. “This is a case of a giant trying to claim more territory than what it is entitled to, to the great prejudice of a local ‘Pinoy Phone’ merchant who has managed to obtain a significant foothold in the mobile phone market through the marketing and sale of innovative products under a very distinctive trademark”, Arevalo later added.
