The iPhone 12 is flat edged while the iPhone 11 is curvy, meaning the two are incompatible. But thats not even the biggest issue between them: the iPhone 11 is larger.

If youve decided to buy the iPhone 12 big brother, iPhone 12 Pro Max, can you save money for the case by using the one for an iPhone 11? The answer is NO. That would be a mistake. Yes, buying a new Apple phone can be costly, but it wont be possible to reuse your older phone case.
The iPhone 11 6.1-inch screen makes it physically bigger than the iPhone 12 Pro Max. Thus, an iPhone 11 case cannot fit into an iPhone 12 Pro Max case.
Can I Use My New iPhone 13 Phone With The Older Version Cases
If you have a case older than iPhone 12 and would like to use it for your new iPhone 13 phone, its as good as forgotten. If the new phones are not interchangeable with their immediate predecessors , there is no way it will work with other older version cases. You might want to save a few pence by using the iPhone 12 case on a new iPhone 13 phone. However, because of the design of the new phones, they are not compatible with the older versions and their cases. Therefore, you cannot use the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro with iPhone 12 and 12 Pro, respectively. While iPhone 13 case is not compatible with iPhone 13 Pro. You can use an iPhone 13 Pro case with an iPhone 13 phone. But its always best to get each phone its designed cover.

Can The iPhone 12 Fit In An iPhone 11 Case
While theyre clearly different phones, both the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 share similar screen sizes, and now the iPhone 12 Pro with them.
Like the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR before it, the iPhone 12 offers up a 6.1 inch screen, albeit in a new design. However that new design is very different, and that means you cant make them fit.
This isnt like with the iPhone 11 fitting into an iPhone XR case which worked, but had issues or an iPhone XR into an iPhone 11 which was better, thanks to the camera differences. Rather, its a totally different design, and you cant fit an iPhone 12 into most cases.
The fit is just too loose and doesnt line up at all. Buttons are out of placement and the camera window doesnt fit at all.
We did find one case that managed to get close, with Apples iPhone 11 Smart Battery case fitting the iPhone 12, and hugging the chassis a little more than others.
However the battery side of things doesnt work, and even though we could make the iPhone 11 battery case fit the iPhone 12, the buttons and side switch were totally out of alignment, so the case doesnt exactly work with the iPhone, even if it kinda fits.
Simply put, no, an iPhone 12 will not fit into an iPhone 11 case.
So what about the other way: is it possible to fit an iPhone 11 into an iPhone 12 case?
Apple’s Got A Brand New Set Of Cases And They’re Magnetized
One of the key components of the iPhone 12 lineup is MagSafe. MagSafe is a magnetic accessory and charger connection on the back of the new iPhones, including the iPhone 12 mini. In addition, the iPhone 11 has a new U1 chip and Wi-Fi 6 and Gigabit LTE capabilities. You will see these next-gen features in future iPhones and Android devices, so if you want to have a modern phone for the next few years, the iPhone 11 is the best bet. But because Wi-Fi 6 and Gigabit LTE are not fully built-out networks yet, you won’t see any immediate advantages — another reason why we still prefer the iPhone XR.

No, thats not possible since the old iPhone 11 is wider than the new 12 Pro Max. Its 2.98 inches wide compared to the iPhone Pro Max 2.82-inches wide.
What if you have an iPhone 11 Pro Max, which was a 2019 big iPhone, and would like to buy a protective aesthetic case for it? Can you opt for an iPhone 12 Pro Max case and use that one? The truth is, the iPhone 12 Pro Max is slightly bigger than that of its iPhone 11 twin. It will fit the older iPhone, but not properly it will still be snug, and the silence switch and volume buttons wont line up. You can use a 12 Pro Max case for an iPhone 11 Pro Max case, but it wont fit quite right and work perfectly.

Design: Nearly Identical And Still As Durable
The iPhone 11 and XR look nearly identical — the quickest way to identify them is by the iPhone 11’s extra camera and square bump. But besides that and the different color choices , there are no obvious differences. They are the same size and weigh the same, and the phones have the same 6.1-inch LCD display with the same resolution and pixel density.
Besides the number of rear cameras they have, the iPhone 11 and XR look similar.
We performed a series of drop tests on the iPhone 11 and XR, and both phones are quite sturdy. We dropped the iPhone 11 on its front and back on smooth concrete from 3 feet, 6 feet and 8 feet, 7 inches. On all drops, the phone’s back glass and screen didn’t crack. There was a small, cosmetic scratch above the camera lens from 8 feet, but the camera lens was completely fine.

When we dropped the iPhone XR back in 2018, we dropped it on a concrete sidewalk. At waist height , the phone’s camera glass cracked, but the back glass survived. The screen also was unscathed. At eye-level , the iPhone XR survived a fall on its back with no new damage, but when we dropped it on its screen, the display ultimately cracked. Though that was unfortunate, the fact that the iPhone XR survived waist-high drops was still good.
Are The iPhone 13 And iPhone 13 Pro Cases Interchangeable At Least
No. Unlike the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, which share the same physical dimensions, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro do not. While the dimensions of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro handsets are the same, it comes down to the camera module. The iPhone 13 Pro has a substantially larger camera module than the iPhone 13 does. The iPhone 13 Pro’s camera module is also much larger than the iPhone 12 Pro, so it definitely won’t fit in an older case.

Below are cases that we tested and dismissed in 2017 for the iPhone X. The 2018 versions are so similar in their design, if not identical, that we didnt test them again.
Basic cases
The felt just a bit cheaper than the other inexpensive, basic cases we tested, and its lip was just a little shorter than the 1 mm that Apple recommends. The color selection also seemed limited.
With its faux carbon fiber and screws, the look of Ankers Karapax Shield isnt for everyone. However, it fits well and everything works as expected, so if you like the style, go for it. We just dont think its the aesthetic choice for most people.
Our testing panel preferred the smooth yet grippy cases we recommend over the textured feel of the Incipio NGP Advanced.
The top 60 percent or so of the Incipio NGP Sport case offers the same feel as the standard NGP does, but the bottom is a glossier, grippier material. The design looks nice, but we dont think that is worth the premium Incipio charges for the case.
Spigens Thin Fit is a simple plastic, snap-on shell that provides minimal protection due to its fully exposed top and bottom edges.
Spigens Liquid Air has a textured back that our testing panel wasnt as fond of compared with the smoother feel of our pick, and gaps around the side and volume buttons offer an opportunity for dust to get under the case.

Since iPhone cases are vital for protection, we need to buy them every time we acquire new devices. Unfortunately, for now, we cant use our older iPhone versions cases for the newer versions. Any old iPhone 11 cases cannot fit the iPhone 12 series. Meaning, if you buy either the iPhone 12 or iPhone 12 Pro Max, youll need to buy a phone case for either one.
