What About Deleting The Original App
This is, as far as we can tell, a red herring. Yes, Apple does allow you to delete some preinstalled apps . But we haven’t been able to get iOS to then default to an alternative.
We tested this by deleting Maps, then manually writing a postal address in Notes. This was transformed automatically into a tappable link we tapped it, hoping to be sent to Google Maps. Instead, we were only given the options to ‘Restore “Maps”?’ Or cancel the action.
You could try experimenting with deleting other Apple apps, but we suspect that the same will happen with all of them. In any case, many of the most important Apple apps – including Safari, Photos, Camera and Phone – cannot be deleted at all.

Starting with iOS 14, you can choose whether to place downloaded apps either on the Home screen or exclusively in the App Library on your iPhone. The latter option can help you keep the Home screen uncluttered. Heres how to set it up.
First, tap Settings.
Tap Home Screen.
Locate the Newly Downloaded Apps section. There, youll find the following two choices:
- Add to Home Screen: Choose this if you want new apps you download to appear on the Home screen . Apps will also appear in the App Library.
- App Library Only: Choose this option if you dont want new apps to appear on the Home screen. You can still place them there manually later. Instead, theyll be in the App Library or you can open them via Spotlight Search. You can get to the App Library by swiping right through all of your Home screen pages.
After you make your selection, a checkmark will appear beside it.

If you chose App Library Only, you can quickly find new apps in the Recently Added section of the App Library.
Why Can I Not Change App Icons On Ios 15
It was in iOS 14 that Apple eventually added support for home screen customizations with widgets and custom app icons through the Shortcuts app. Since then, however, not much has changed and even if it has been a month since iOS 15 was released, the process of creating custom icons has remained the same. While you still need to go over the tiring process of setting up an icon for each and every app, using an icon is now easier because it no longer opens the Shortcuts app first.
There are only a handful of apps on the App Store that offer an option to change their app icon from within their settings page. You can find more apps that offer their widgets on iOS, most of which are available in multiple versions. But other than that, theres no legitimate way to change an app icons appearance on the home screen.
Unlike on Android, theres still no way you can pick an icon pack or change an apps icon directly within Settings. Since iOS doesnt offer a way to use third-party app launchers like Android, theres also no platform for icon packs to be flourish.
Having only debuted widgets and custom icons with Shortcuts only a year ago, its unlikely that Apple allows more customization to your iPhone home screen any time soon. Its also a tricky affair for the Cupertino company since giving users custom icons support will no longer keep them in control over which brands to promote and get a cut from.
