44 models in total will no longer be compatible with the popular messaging app

Bad news for those still holding on to their iPhone 6SWhatsApp will stop working starting November 1.

And its not just the 6S. Its the 6, SE, and all earlier models that have no higher than Apples iOS 10, plus a whole host of Android and KaiOS phones.

Anything older than Android OS 4.1 and KaiOS 2.5.1 will no longer be compatible with WhatsApp, and will not receive support from Facebook/WhatsApp in the future.

The good news, however, is that WhatsApp will be getting a new featureallowing users to migrate their chats when switching from iOS to Samsung Android.

To start, this feature is available on any Samsung device running Android 10 or higher, and will be available on more Android devices soon, says WhatsApp.

The catch is it will have to be done when you are first setting up your phone.

Your new Android device must be factory new or reset to factory settings, says WhatsApp, or will have to reset to factory settings.

This is just a start. We look forward to making this option available for more people to switch between platforms of their choice and securely take their chats with them, promised WhatsApp.

What To Do If Your App Stops Working After Updating Your iPhone

Will your main apps and the phone itself stop working when you dont initiate an update? The answer is no! Even if you dont update to the latest iOS, your apps and iPhone will still work perfectly well.

However, whenever you discover that your apps are slowing down, you can try to update your iOS to a brand new version to see if the problem persists. But keep in mind that upgrading your iPhone 6s to the newest version of iOS can make some applications on your phone to stop working fine. It can happen to any iPhone model, not only the iPhone 6s.

One of the steps you can try under such a condition is to update your applications. Just visit the settings of your phone to check it out.

The next update to Apple’s iOS could kill support for older devices like the iPhone 6, iPhone 6s Plus, and the original iPhone SE.

According to the report from French site iPhoneSoft, Apple’s iOS 15 update will seemingly drop support for devices with an A9 chip when it launches later in 2021. That corroborates a previous rumor about iOS 15 compatibility.

All three devices slated to lose current iOS compatibility are at least four years old. The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were both released in September 2015, while the original iPhone SE debuted in March 2016.

In addition to the iPhones, iPhoneSoft also says a number of iPads will no longer be supported by iOS 15. Here’s what may be getting left behind.

  • iPhone 6s
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad 5

Per iPhoneSoft, the full list of current iPhone devices that will be compatible with iOS 15 include:

Rumor Claims Ios 15 To Drop Support For iPhone 6s And Original iPhone Se

Apple will drop support for the iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus in next year’s release of iOS 15, according to a rumor shared today by Israeli site The Verifier.

If the rumor is accurate, that would mean iOS 15 will be compatible with the following Apple devices:

  • 2021 iPhone series
  • iPhone SE
  • iPod touch

The site said last year that iOS 14 would be the last version of iOS that the iPhone SE, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 6s Plus would be compatible with, which wouldn’t be a surprise as Apple often provides software updates for approximately four or five years after the release of a new device.

The iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus originally launched in September 2015, followed by the iPhone SE in March 2016.

The Verifier doesn’t have the greatest track record when it comes to accurate leaks with both hits and misses, but it did accurately predict that iOS 14 would be compatible with all iPhones and iPod touch models able to run iOS 13.

There’s no word on which iPads will be able to run iPadOS 15, but if iPadOS 15 is compatible with all iPads able to run iPadOS 14, it will work on the iPad Air 2, 3rd-gen iPad Air, iPad mini 4 and 5, 5th, 6th, and 7th-generation iPads, and all iPad Pro models.

Apple iPhone 6 And iPhone 6 Plus

Apple iPhone 6s 32GB

The iPhone maker warns that Apple discontinues all hardware services for models that are considered obsolete. This only means that the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus are now considered too old to get the latest iOS updates.

The last model that will still be receiving iOS updates will be the iPhone 6S or later models. With that, Apple has already cut off its support for the iPhone 6 two years ago with the previous release of the iOS 13.

The photo will then return to looking like a standard iPhone shot. And if you have an iPhone 6s Plus, you may be wondering whether you can take portrait mode photos too. The answer is, unfortunately, no Apple didnt add the dual lens camera to its Plus devices until the iPhone 7, so youre out of luck.

Difficulty In Sourcing Out Spare Parts

There is another reason why having an iPhone on Apple’s vintage list could be a problem. This is because having an outdated iPhone model will make it harder to source spare parts and repair the model should it run into some problems.

The vintage period for products on the list will last for two years before Apple officially declares the models “obsolete.” Once the model becomes obsolete, Apple will completely cut off the handset.

Watch Apple Might Finally Stop Supporting The iPhone 6s In 2022

Apple may finally be dropping some of its oldest supported iPhones with the next iOS release. This report comes from the French publication iPhoneSoft, which accurately predicted the iOS 13 and iOS 14 road maps.

Apple has been praised for supporting its iPhones for an exceedingly long period of time with full updates, and that has led to impressive scenarios like the iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 being updated to iOS 15 last year. Granted, they couldnt take advantage of several hardware-enabled features, but they werent rapidly outdated either.

The iPhone 6S, 6S Plus, and SE were released in 2016. If this report pans out, they would have been supported for more than half a decade. This is longer than any Android phone even the recently released Google Pixel 6 only goes as far as three operating system updates, while the 2018 Pixel 3 has gotten its last Android update with Android 12. Would it be possible for Apple to hypothetically squeeze one more year from these devices? Probably. Would it be worth it? Unlikely. With slow processors, batteries that would be well past their prime, and legacy hardware like 3D Touch, its more trouble than its worth.

Aside from the iPhones, Apple is also said to be dropping the iPad 5, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 4, and the 2015 iPad Pro with the arrival of iPad OS 16. These are also relatively old devices that have been supported for many years. Much like with the iPhones, the old hardware likely has reached the limit of its capabilities.

Is My Phone Useless If It Stops Receiving Updates

iOS 14.3 Warning âï¸? iPhone SE – iPhone 6S & 6S Plus

It depends on what useless means to you, if a phone with reduced security and outdated security patches is useless to you, then yes the iPhone 7 will become useless after it stops receiving updates.

However, this will not affect its functioning. You will still be able to make calls, play games, run apps and access the web using the device as long as no hardware failure occurs. It is just that your device will now be vulnerable to attacks and breaches as it will get no security updates.

We hope this guide helped shed some light on the lifespan of the iPhone 7. As such, these are just educated guesses based on Apples past support and patterns when it comes to software updates. If you have any more questions, feel free to drop them in the comments below.

Is The Frequent Update Of Ios For iPhones Necessary

If youre an iPhone user, then its obvious you are no stranger to the regular updates of iPhones. Its one thing every iPhone user must commit to at some point in time. The one thing that could save you from rigors of updating to a newer iOS released by Apple is when theres no more support for the phone in question.

However, Apple only supports its new phones for at least five years, though some iPhone models are lucky enough to enjoy such privileges a bit longer. When seized, everything stops. Your phone will continue to perform essential functions like charging, taking pictures, Face time, and more. But you cant partake in new features, which a new iOS would bring.

To iPhone users, an iOS update is like a party. You know how bad it feels when you are not invited to a party hosted by your peers, right? Thats how it feels not having the privilege to update to a new iOS. For instance, the iOS 13 update is available as of the time of writing, only that the iPhone 5s users are not invited to partake in the update party.

Numerous benefits for updating to a new iOS are available. For instance, if you are a gamer and enjoy downloading the latest games for iOS devices, then you should know how necessary updating to a new iOS can be. There are games that someone using an iPhone 6s can install on their device that someone using an iPhone 5s cant. It happens when the game in question only runs on higher iOS, for instance, iOS 13, which the iPhone 5s cant handle.
