Apple doesnt specify how much RAM is in an iPhone, but its not hard to find out. There are tools that provide a great deal of data about an iPhone, and you can find databases, such as MacTracker, that list this information for all Apple devices.

The very first iPhone had just 128 MB RAM, and the latest model, the iPhone 13, has either 4 or 6 GB RAM.

• iPhone : 128 MB
• iPhone 13 mini: 4 GB
• iPhone 13 Pro: 6 GB
• iPhone 13 Pro Max: 6 GB

You may notice that, with some recent models starting with the iPhone 7 Plus larger or “Pro” iPhones have more RAM. For example, the iPhone 13 comes with 4 GB standard, whereas the Pro models have 6 GB. Yet you may also notice that this is less than the latest Google Pixel phone, which comes with either 6 GB or 8 GB.

How Much Mobile Data Does The Average Person Use

The average person used 4.5GB of data per month in 2020, according to Ofcoms Communications Market Report 2021. Thats a 27% increase on the 3.6GB used per month in 2019, which in turns is a 22% increase on the 2.9GB used per month in 2018. Data use has steadily increased every year included in the report too with the stats going back to 2013.

The study doesnt include figures for 2021, but with the growing availability of 5G and the ever-increasing data demands of modern applications, wed expect data use will be continuing to grow rapidly.

Indeed, Three for its part claims that its customers used 19GB of data on average in December 2021. Threes customers tend to use more data than those on other networks, so this wont be representative of the wider industry, but that is an increase on the 15.8GB used on average a year earlier.

Why Higher Storage iPhones Cost More Money

When it comes to iPhone storage, youre probably wondering why higher storage sizes are so expensive? Well, there are two reasons for this.

The first reason is that Apple likes making money. This is why it has and always will charge a premium for its products. Do you really think the iPhone 12 costs Apple $799 to make? It is actually more like $100. But the RRP has to reflect costs associated with building and distributing the phone and also generate profit.

Apple also likes to ensure it has hefty profit margins on all of its profits, usually around 35%.

The second reason is to do with quality. Apple has to ensure that the memory it uses in its iPhones is flawless. It cannot afford the memory to break or get corrupted it has to work perfectly for up to a decade. This means it CANNOT use cheap memory. If it did, it would have QC issues and returns.

This is also why Apple doesnt allow microSD and/or expandable storage on its iPhones. It likes to control the entire experience. If you start expanding the storage on your own, youre stepping outside of Apples control. And Apple does not like this. If you want more storage, you have to pay for it.

Its as brutally capitalistic as that.

Gb: Enough For The Average User

An iPhone with 128GB storage capacity is suitable for the average user. With the new iPhone 12 models, this is the minimum storage capacity. With 128GB, you have enough space to store some photos, music, and videos locally. As a result, you don’t have to exclusively use iCloud storage. Want to download a movie for on the go? Not a problem. Simply delete it from your device afterwards so you can download a new one.

Drop Test: We Couldn’t Crack The iPhone 11

Last year’s iPhone XS lasted surprisingly well in our drop test. The XR, not quite as much. All the “11 phones” sport improved glass, per Apple. We ran a drop test on both the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro. We dropped each phone from four different heights: 3, 6, 8 and 11 feet. From 8 feet and below both phones survived being dropped onto a concrete floor. The iPhone 11 Pro is the only one that showed damage. A few pixels on the 11 Pro’s screen stopped working and there was a minor scuff on the aluminum bumper and a cosmetic scratch on the top lens housing. The camera itself still worked.

From 11 feet, both phones still didn’t crack, but the iPhone 11’s rear camera stopped working and the iPhone 11 Pro’s SIM card tray popped out. It was easily pushed back into play, but a small bulge appeared along the seam of where the screen joins the stainless-steel frame. Do you really need a 64GB iPhone?

My friends, that is the $100-$200 question that you may find yourself asking one day soon, standing at the counter of the AT& T or Verizon store, clueless as to your iPhone storage needs. Choosing between the 16GB iPhone for $199, the 32GB iPhone for $299 and the 64GB iPhone for $399 can be a Goldilocks-style conundrum: There’s no telling which one will be just right until you actually test all three options, live with a smartphone and discover how much storage you require through trial and error.

How can you decide beforehand, then, which one to go for? How can you know whether to go big and snag a 64GB model, or save some moolah and stick with the 16GB version?

What follows is a handy little guide that should help you determine which iPhone will best serve your needs. While there is no scientific formula, here are three questions you should ask yourself before committing to the 16, 32 or 64:

When it comes to iPhones, more storage capacity is almost always better, with a big catch: It costs more money. Using an example from March 2022, an unlocked 128 GB iPhone 13 cost $829, while an unlocked 512 GB iPhone 13 cost $1,129. Thats a $300 difference for four times more onboard storage.

As of March 2022, Apple sells iPhones with storage capacities that range from 64 GB all the way to 1 TB. Heres Apples March 2022 iPhone lineupwhich will change over timebut will give you an idea of the typical spread of capacities available:

• iPhone SE: 64 GB / 128 GB / 256 GB
• iPhone 11: 64 GB / 128 GB
• iPhone 12: 64 GB / 128 GB / 256 GB
• iPhone 13: 128 GB / 256 GB / 512 GB
• iPhone 13 Pro: 128 GB / 256 GB / 512 GB / 1 TB

Why do you need more storage? Photos and videos in particular take up a lot of space, along with podcasts, music, and large apps such as games. If youre a light-duty iPhone user that typically just uses it to make calls, text people, send emails, and browse the web, you can potentially get by with less storage space on your iPhone.

But if you like to take lots of photos and videos, use hundreds of apps, and want to carry a large music collection in your pocket, youll want as much iPhone storage capacity as possible. Keep in mind that, unlike some Android phones, the iPhones storage space isnt expandable or upgradeable. Once you buy a model with a certain capacity, it will always be that way.

iPhone 11 Review: Price And Release Date

The iPhone 11 went on sale Sept. 20, 2019 at a starting price of $699 for 64GB of storage, or $29.12 per month. That was $50 less than the iPhone XR’s debut price. Apple has since cut the price the iPhone 11 and dropped the iPhone XR from its lineup now that we’re living in an iPhone 13 world. You can get an iPhone 11 for $499 these days, and if you trade in an iPhone at Apple, you can lower the cost even further.

The new iPhones boost starting storage to 128GB, but the iPhone 11 is a relic of the days when Apple thought 64GB of storage was good enough. You can upgrade to the 128GB iPhone 11 model for $50 extra.

For the UK, you can buy the iPhone 11 from Apples website , where it debuted at £729, £779, £879 for the 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage versions respectively. In comparison, this was about £20 less than the entry level iPhone XRs launch price, which is unarguably a discount, but a paltry one. These days, UK shoppers pay £489 for the iPhone 11.

How Much Is 4gb Of Data

With 4GB of data youre approaching the lower mid-range of data use. Web browsing, social media and email should be nothing to worry about unless youre using mobile data much of the day, as you could web browse for up to around 3 hours daily on average, or use social media apps for at least half that.

If youre happy with just around 40 minutes of daily browsing you could also stream around 2 hours of music each day, striking a nice balance between the two. Or you could cut the music and stream a few movies on low or medium video quality. If youre a binge-watcher though this still wont cut it.

4GB data sample monthly usage:

• 3 hours daily of web browsing
• Or at least 90 minutes of daily social media
• Or 40 mins of browsing and 2 hours of music daily
• Or 40 mins of browsing daily and a few films each month

What Storage Size iPhone 11 Should You Get

Best Answer: For the average person, the 128GB should be plenty of space, especially if you are the type of person to not depend on cloud storage services, download a lot of music and take plenty of photos and video. If you do, plan to take advantage of iOS 13’s flash drive support, then 64GB is fine. How many GB of iPhone storage should you get? Honestly, as much as you can afford. I have a movie on my iPad that takes up 5 GB of space. If you shoot high-definition video on your device, it can use up 150 MB for each minute of video. If you use your camera in burst mode, you’ll be using up about 25 MB for each second the shutter is open. Some games can take up well over 1 GB of storage. Augmented Reality apps and games require even more iPhone storage. I opted for 64 GB on the iPad mini that I bought a few years back, and would probably choose to get more if I were to buy a new iPad.

iPhone 11 Review: Front Camera

You could say that the iPhone XR’s 7-MP front camera was selfie challenged, but the iPhone 11 rectifies that with a sharper 12-MP sensor with a wider field of view. With a tap you can engage the wider angle or you can simply rotate the phone to landscape mode and the wide view will turn on automatically, which is a smart implementation.

But the one front camera feature everyone is talking about with the new iPhone is “slofies,” which are slo-mo selfie videos shot at 120 fps. I don’t know if the name will take off, but it’s a fun feature for those who want to add some drama to selfies.

For kicks, I took a slofie while trying to make a basket in the driveway behind my head. Apple makes it easy in the editing software to slow down just the bits you want. I won’t tell you how many takes it took to make the basket, but I like the detail in the shot, especially in the clouds behind me.

For regular selfie videos, you can shoot in 4K up to 60 fps, though if you want the same extended dynamic range offered by the iPhone 11’s rear cameras you’ll have to stick with 30 fps.

How Much Does It Cost To Upgrade

At the end of the day, 64GB should be more than enough for most.

My usage might seem modest, but I’m tied to my phone and take a lot of photos and videos for work. But if you’d describe my 45GB of used storage as rookie numbers, you might need to upgrade to the 128GB model, at least.

If you’re buying an iPhone 12 outright, the jump to 128GB will only cost you an extra $80. The same goes for the iPhone 11. Meanwhile, the jump to the 256GB iPhone 12 comes in at an extra $250 on the RRP of the device.

Opting for the 128GB iPhone 13 instead will cost you $70 more than the 128GB iPhone 12, or $150 more than the 64GB model.

On a 36-month plan, the 128GB iPhone 12 will only cost you between $3 and $4 extra per month versus its 64GB counterpart. In comparison, the 256GB iPhone 12 should cost roughly $9 more per month.

Here’s a quick round-up of iPhone plans that illustrate how each provider fares when it comes to the 128GB iPhone 12.

At this point, many consumers might actually find it easier to just opt for the standard 128GB of the iPhone 13 instead. You might not be able to find it for the kind of discounted or depreciated price that the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 go for nowadays, but if you pair Apple’s latest flagship up with a decent promo plan from the right provider, it might actually end up cheaper than its predecessors in the long run.

Check Your Storage With Itunes

Once you connect your iTunes to your iPhone, it will automatically check the available space. This lets you know how much data you use for different content.

First, you should open iTunes on your computer. It usually comes preinstalled on all Mac computers, but if you dont have one, you will have to and install it.

You then link your iPhone to the computer via cable, hotspot, or Bluetooth.

When the two devices connect, just click on your iPhone in the iTunes app.

This will open a window that lists all the important information about your iPhone. In the bottom, you will see a storage bar. Different content is shown in different colors. Once you move your mouse pointer over color, you will see which content type it represents. Content types may be video, photo, audio, apps, documents, and others.

On this colorful storage bar, you will see how much storage you have left and how many gigabytes different types of data are currently using.

iPhone 11 Battery Video

The iPhone 11 has a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina LCD panel with a resolution thats slightly above 720p. This is far from the highest resolution on an iPhone and it lacks the deep blacks youd get with an OLED panel.

What that lower resolution does help with is battery life and youll notice this when streaming video.

Watching an hour of Netflix at roughly 50% brightness took the battery down between 6 and 7 %. It was a similar story for a downloaded video from iTunes.

iPhone 11 Battery Life: 11 Vs 11 Pro Vs Pro Max

For our smartphone battery life test, we set all phone screens to 150 nits of screen brightness and then continuously surf the web over 4G LTE, typically using T-Mobile’s network for consistency. The test automatically loads a new website every 30 seconds until the battery drains.

The iPhone 11 Pro Max was the clear winner in our testing, averaging a runtime of 11 hours and 54 minutes. This enabled the 11 Pro Max to be named to our best phone battery life list. By comparison, the Galaxy Note 10 Plus lasted an average of 11:09.

Not surprisingly, the iPhone 11 Pro Max also has the biggest battery of any iPhone yet at a reported 3,968 mAh, according to one teardown.

Moving on to the next highest battery life score, the iPhone 11 averaged a very good 11:16 on the Tom’s Guide battery test. The iPhone 11 Pro lasted only an average of 10:24.

If you believe the iPhone 11 teardowns, the regular iPhone 11 has a smaller battery than the iPhone 11 Pro at 3046 mAh vs 3190 mAh, but perhaps the iPhone 11’s LCD screen proved more efficient on than the iPhone 11 Pro’s OLED panel on our web surfing test.
