1. Open Notes, then tap the document in the note
2. Tap the Share button, then tap Markup
3. Tap the Add button, then tap Signature and add a saved signature or create a new signature. Then you can adjust the size of the signature box and place it wherever you want on the document
4. Tap Done
*** Notes: For forms/documents that request a parent signature, the signature must be provided by the parent. Proof of signatures may be required.
TIPS: To manually sign your document, follow steps 1-2, then select a tool to use and sign the document with your finger or an Apple Pencil with a compatible iPad.
Scanning Multiple Documents In Sequence
- Arrange your documents in a stack so theyre scanned in order, one after the other.
- After the camera shoots the first page, the app reads Ready next scan along the bottom. Remove the first page so it can capture the second page.
- Repeat until you finish all scanning.
- Tap Save and all your scanned pages will save to a single document. A badge will indicate how many pages are included.
Dont worry about getting the scanning angle right, as the app will automatically correct the view to flatten the scan. When you view the finished scans, they will be properly aligned with a high-quality representation of the contents.

You’ve got a LiDAR scanner if you’ve got an iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, or an iPad Pro, but Apple doesn’t appear to give you any way to use it. Here’s how you can, what you need, and why LiDAR is so useful.
LiDAR is part of the iPhone 12 Pro, the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the iPad Pro, but you could be forgiven for not even noticing. Apple barely mentions it at all, and there is no LiDAR app on the phone for you to try.
Given that one of its key uses is in photography, you’d expect some kind of LiDAR controls in the Camera app, or at least something in Settings. But there’s neither.
There’s also little incentive to go looking for such controls because until you’ve seen it in action, it’s hard to grasp just what LiDAR can do for you. The technology scans your environment, building up a 3D image of it, and that’s going to change how well AR and VR works.
For now, Apple seems happy to let LiDAR subtly help you out by how it supplements existing apps and functions.

How Do I Scan A Handwritten Document On My iPhone
Tap the Camera icon above the onscreen keyboard. Select Scan Text from the popup submenu. Position the printed or handwritten text in the cameras viewfinder. When the text has been recognized it should appear in the note tap the blue Insert button that appears to in the viewfinder to save it inside the note.

Apps will get more sophisticated as developers explore the technology and as it becomes more worth their while when LiDAR becomes commonplace. That will surely also extend to new ways of sharing or downloading such scans.
It’s a fair bet and a recent supply chain prediction that LiDAR will work its way into the whole iPhone range. And possibly even into the “Apple Car.”

Scanning documents using the Files app lets you capture pages one by one. But, you cannot add any text, drawings, or other elements to the scanned document. For this, you can use the Notes app. You can add scanned document pages on the note, add text and drawing and save it later as PDF.
You can then find the saved PDF file from the Files app on your iPhone.

What You Can Do With Lidar Scans
Next time you move house, take a LiDAR scan of any new property you’re considering buying. We’re not at the stage yet where apps make it very easy to take a scan of a room, and then drop in separate scans of your furniture, but you can do it.
More usefully, you can get a better feel for the size of apartments when you’re comparing them. Being able to effectively walk around each apartment is much more intuitive than relying on floor plans and measurements.
Or if you’re slowly clearing out a storage rental, then taking a quick LiDAR scan is visually much more useful than listing how many boxes are left.
These are all uses that benefit you, as the user who took the LiDAR scans, or the measurements and photographs. If someone else has the same app as you, you can typically send them the scan.
And ones, such as Canvas, include an option to send a scan online. It’s not the same as being able to turn your phone around as you walk about a virtual room. But you can see a 360 degree scanned image on your Mac.
How To Scan A Document With Your iPhone iPad
Place the document on a flat surface, in a well-lit area. Open the Notes app and either create a new note or open an existing note. I created a folder called Scanned Documents where I can store and easily find anything I’ve scanned.
With a note open, tap on the camera icon then Scan Documents.
Your iPhone or iPad will open the camera, complete with a shutter button near the bottom of the screen. Don’t push it yet instead, follow the prompts on your screen. To get the best results, hold your device directly above the document.
It’s hidden under a few taps, but the option’s definitely there.
A yellow box will appear as the camera begins scanning and looking for the document. You’ll see tips like “get closer” as your device looks for the edges and corners of the paper. Once it identifies the entire document, it will automatically capture a scan. If your iPhone is struggling to find the document, you can press the shutter button.
A small thumbnail of each page will show in the bottom-left corner, and the scanner will remain open to continue scanning multiple pages. When you’re done, tap Save.

Scan Documents On Ios 13 & 14 Using The Notes App
The iPhones built-in Notes app has a special scanning feature that you can access whenever you create a new Notes document.
Heres how to scan documents on iPhone using the Notes app:
- Tap and hold the Notes app and then select Scan Document.

- Line up the document you want to scan. Tap the shutter button if the scanner doesnt automatically scan the document. Repeat this step for every document you want to scan.
- Tap Save after youve scanned all of the necessary pages. The button will have a count of how many pages you scanned.
Editing Scanned Documents On iPhone And iPad
Once youve scanned all of the documents you want to scan, you can tap the thumbnail of the most recently scanned document in the lower-left corner of the camera. It should bring you here.
Before inserting this image into your Note you can edit it. The doc were going to be using in this example is, obviously, blank. In a typical document, however, youd be able to tweak things like color, crop, and rotation.
To do each of these things, tap the buttons at the bottom to edit your scanned document on iPhone and iPad.

Scanning Objects With Lidar
You’ve already seen this with selected Apple devices. Through AR, and scanned images, your iPhone can show you what, say, a Mac Pro would look like on your desk. LiDAR scanners let you capture an object’s image and do exactly that yourself.
Canvas is capable of this, though in our testing it felt optimized for scanning rooms. Equally, the free 3D Scanner App can and does do rooms, but it seems best at capturing objects.
Again, though, there are increasing numbers of LiDAR scanning apps, with many of them free to try.
And again, 3D Scanner App resembles a holodeck in how it presents a grid over your object, which gets filled in and replaced as you scan.
