How To Get 5g On iPhone
Follow the steps below to get 5G on your iPhone:
Step 1: On your iPhone 12/12 mini/12 Pro/12 Pro Max, open Settings and tap Cellular.
Step 2: Select Cellular Data Options> Voice & Data.
Step 3: Select 5G On or 5G Auto.
Note: You will see three options under the Voice & Data screen here’s what they mean:
- 5G Auto: This default 5G network option enables the Smart Data mode on your iPhone. This mode will automatically switch from 5G to 4G when 5G speeds don’t provide a significantly better experience. It helps save battery life.
- 5G On: With this mode on, your phone always uses 5G, reducing the battery life.
- LTE: Your phone uses LTE network only even when 5G is available.

For those who held out on upgrading to Apples first 5G iPhone, the next iPhone appears to be essentially a better 5G version of the iPhone 12.
If you have an iPhone 11 or earlier, 5G is not available since those phones use modems limited to 4G networks.
While the iPhone 12 has been popular because its Apples first 5G phone, theres plenty of room for improvement as 5G matures beyond the first wave of devices.
And you can expect those improvements to appear in the next-gen iPhone 13. That device will likely get a Qualcomm X60 5G modem* and a bigger battery which would theoretically keep the phone going longer when connected to 5G networks. Typically, a 5G connection drains the battery faster than 4G.
The X60 modem will also allow the new iPhones to handle 5G data from both mmWave and sub-6GHz bands simultaneously, allowing for better 5G performance, as spelled out by Qualcomm.

What If I Don’t Want 5g
You can still use 4G networks with the iPhone 12, and if you don’t have a 5G-ready plan you won’t be stopped from using one of Apple’s newest phones.
If you want a 4G-only iPhone 12, that isn’t an option. Instead, you may want to look at either the iPhone 11 or one of the other iPhones that the company has released in the last couple of years.
But other than a potentially higher cost there’s really no downside to opting for a 5G handset even if you’re sticking with 4G, and the iPhone 12 range has plenty of other upgrades you might appreciate, including more power, better cameras, and MagSafe support.

Does The iPhone Have 5g

Apple pulled off a surprise earlier this month by launching the iPhone SE, a $399 phone that aims to change the budget phone landscape. Apple has fitted its new compact phone with its top-of-the-line A13 Bionic chip and a single camera that can shoot 4K videos and supports portrait photography. Sounds like a solid package, eh? Yeah, we think so too.
But the big question is, has Apple equipped the iPhone SE with the hottest flagship trend of the year 2020? Of course, we are talking about 5G here. So, does the iPhone SE support 5G? Well, the answer is NO. Apple is sticking with 4G LTE for its new iPhone for the masses, but the new iPhone 12 5G series now supports 5G!
So, how big of a trade-off is that? Well, it aint a major red flag for many reasons. First, the availability of 5G network is still not as widespread as 4G, and finicky network latching behavior is also an issue. Plus, there is the speed gain conundrum while switching between mmWave and sub-6 GHz bands, which in turn has a reciprocal relationship with network stability and penetration.
Second, 5G connectivity comes with its own well-documented drawbacks such as increased battery consumption and some heating as well. I dont want to sound like a 5G detractor here, but thats just the current state of it.

If you need a new iPhone but want to stick with 4G, Apple’s $399 iPhone SE, released in April, could be an option. CNET’s Patrick Holland called it “one of the best budget phones you can currently buy” and said he’s “enamored with it.” There are some trade-offs, like only one rear camera lens and no Night Mode, but some of those features won’t matter to people looking for a cheaper device.
If you want one of Apple’s higher-end phones but only want 4G, buying 2019’s iPhone 11 could be a safe bet. The company cut the price of that device by $100 to $599, and it also lowered 2018’s iPhone XR by $100 to $499.
At the same time, you can buy a new 5G iPhone and just not access 5G networks or pay for 5G service. The device will still work on 4G networks, and it can tap into even faster 4G connectivity than before.

The big upgrade on the tech specs is 5G and the new A14 Bionic processor to power it all. As with every new iPhone, the device is more powerful than the one before and that allows Apple to offer more things beyond just allowing you to load apps and games faster.

On the battery front, the iPhone performs as we would expect. It’s always hard to gauge battery life, especially as the new-normal means we really aren’t travelling as much as we once were. We’ve yet to really see how 5G usage affects performance long term, but a morning using 5G didn’t cause any major concerns. We will update this review over time as we use the iPhone 12 Pro more and in various use cases – especially on 5G – but so far we’ve not seen any indicators that this phone will struggle to make it through the day on a charge.
