While its mainly used for cell phones, 5G has also made inroads into home internet with the emergence of new services like Verizon 5G Home Internet and T-Mobile Home Internet.

T-Mobile Home Internet is the biggest and most widely available, 5G internet service out right now. It uses a home router to pick up wireless signals from cellular transmitters on the street, drawing on both 5G and 4G LTE networks.

Verizons 5G Home Internet has also been getting attention. Delivering speeds up to 1,000 Mbps, it uses a router designed to pick up signals from millimeter-wave 5G transmitters. Availability is limited compared to T-Mobiles service, but both of these options could be big competitors to cable internet in the coming years, since they feature attractive perks like flat fees, month-to-month contracts, and unlimited data.

iPhone Se 2022 Review: A Whole Lot Of Phone For $429

The iPhone SE is Apples budget-friendly iPhone and pairs an older design with newer hardware. The third-generation iPhone SE is now up for preorder and continues this working formula.

Its now $429 a slight price bump over previous models in an identical build with a home button and just a single camera lens. But its upgraded on the inside with a newer processor and support for 5G. And Ive spent six days with it to see who needs to upgrade and determine who the budget iPhone is for.

What Is The iPhone Se 2020

It’s Apple’s attempt at providing an affordable iPhone option, with more cut-down specs than the other phones launched in 2020 but with a much lower price. Those specs include a 4.7-inch display, an Apple A13 processor and a single 12-megapixel rear camera. Storage starts at 64GB, it supports Qi wireless charging and there’s no 5G.

The iPhone SE 2020 is by far the cheapest iPhone you can buy directly from Apple.

Night Mode For Taking Better Photos In The Dark

Given the iPhone SE’s cheap price, I wouldn’t expect it to have a camera that’s on par with the iPhone 13 or even the iPhone 12. But if there’s one feature I would have appreciated, it’s Night Mode. Across the industry, smartphone cameras have gotten a lot better at taking photos in the dark. I hoped Apple’s low-cost iPhone would reflect this progress, too.

It’s possible that it would have been too challenging in terms of size and cost to include the iPhone 11’s upgraded wide camera sensor in the new SE. But Google has found a way to bring Night Sight to its similarly priced Pixel 5A with 5G… and considering the iPhone SE lacks a secondary ultrawide lens, the quality of the standard wide-angle camera is more important than ever.

That said, Apple says the iPhone SE should be able to take better videos in low light thanks to the A15 Bionic’s newer image signal processor. And the camera is getting other upgrades, such as the pixel-by-pixel Deep Fusion processing technique.

Overall, the new iPhone SE reiterates the different ways Apple and Samsung view what matters most in a budget smartphone. Samsung’s cheaper phones usually have more camera lenses, sharper selfie cameras and larger screens. Instead of those, Apple’s iPhone SE gets the latest mobile processor, which should hopefully keep the phone feeling relatively fast for years to come.

G Vs 4g: Our Test Results

It’s important to keep in mind that 5G performance is forever changing, as carriers build out their networks and improve upon existing service. But it’s helpful to look back at where we’ve been to chart the progress carriers are making.

In our 2019 testing, Sprints network, which uses mid-band spectrum, proved to be slower than Verizons network, but more widespread and reliable. Sprint, of course, is now part of T-Mobile, which is using Sprint’s spectrum to bolster the speed of its nationwide coverage. AT& T now has a nationwide 5G network, too, augmented by mmWave coverage in around three dozen cities.

At its peak, we saw download speeds in excess of 1 Gbps from Verizon in Chicago, and speeds in the 900 Mbps range from AT& T’s 5G Plus network in Las Vegas. T-Mobiles mmWave 5G network in New York was more widespread than the pockets of coverage we saw in Chicago and Vegas, but only reached 600 Mbps.

Sprints slower 5G network turned up top speeds ranging from 350 to 450 Mbps in Dallas, hovering under 200 Mbps for most tests, but blanketed more of the city than mmWave. In Chicago, we saw similar results from Sprint, but at least we could catch a 5G signal indoors.

As for T-Mobile’s nationwide 5G network, the low-band spectrum means speeds reach between 100 to 200 Mbps at their peak, but in most cases are modest improvements over what you’d expect from 4G at least when we ran our initial tests. The addition of Sprint spectrum is improving those results in many cities.

What Is The Price Of The iPhone Se 2022

The iPhone SE 2022 costs $30 more than the iPhone SE 2020. The new iPhone SE launched at $429 for the 64GB model, while the 128GB model will retail for $479, and 256GB for $579. As expected, if you end up purchasing the new device, you will not receive a wall charger in the box, and youll have to purchase one separately. The latest iPhone SE 2022 comes with 5G and the A15 Bionic Chip, the same SoC that powers the iPhone 13 series of flagship devices. The new iPhone SE is the most affordable iPhone in Apples lineup, and it comes with new camera features and improved battery life.

Is There A Better Alternative

If you want an iPhone for less than $500, the iPhone 11 is still sold new by Apple for $499. It will give you a larger, full-screen experience with Face ID rather than Touch ID. The iPhone 12 is your next step up at $599. If you are interested in an iPhone with a more capable camera and a larger screen, we recommend looking at the iPhone 13, but it starts at $799.

Choose an Android phone, and the choice at less than $500 is larger. We recommend the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G, the , or the Nothing Phone 1 . Each gives you a larger screen, but the processor wont be as fast as the iPhone SEs. Despite having more cameras, the performance of these phones may not always be superior.

iPhone Se 2022 To Be The Cheapest 5g iPhone Ever

Apples anticipated iPhone SE in 2022 will be offered up as the cheapest 5G iPhone in history. A report from UDN in Taiwan states that the device:

“Is reported to retain a 4.7-inch LCD screen and Touch ID fingerprint recognition function. The new machine focuses on internal updates. The third-generation iPhone SE processor will be upgraded to an A15 chip to support 5G networks. Apple will position it as the cheapest 5G iPhone in history.'”

This isnt the first time weve heard that the SE will gain 5G capabilities in 2022 Nikkei made the same claim earlier.

For reference, the current and previously cheapest 5G iPhone, the iPhone mini, costs $699 while the current iPhone SE goes for $399. Does that mean we can anticipate a 5G iPhone for $399? Or will Apple go higher while claiming to be lower in one of its classic marketing-related sleights of hand?

More Storage In The Base Model

The 2022 iPhone SE got its debut at Apple’s Peek Performance event.

Apple increased the iPhone 13 lineup’s base storage capacity up to 128GB from 64GB. Unfortunately, that approach didn’t trickle down to the new iPhone SE, which starts at 64GB of storage. You could argue that the 128GB iPhone SE, which costs $479, is hundreds of dollars cheaper than the base iPhone 13. But Apple is still behind its competitors in this regard: Samsung’s $400 Galaxy A42 5G, comes with 128GB of internal storage, as does Google’s $449 Pixel 5A with 5G.

Just As Poweful As An iPhone 13 Pro

The new iPhone SE moves from Apple’s A13 processor to the A15, for a signifcant boost in performance. The A15 is grossly overpowered to run this display and camera system it’s the same chip that’s capable of driving the iPhone 13 Pro Max‘s much higher-resolution screen and triple cameras flawlessly. Here, it hits the display maximum of 60fps at GFXBench’s toughest Aztec Ruins benchmark and absolutely crushes Geekbench.

The bottom line is that the SE 2022 is very, very fast, no matter what you throw at it. Take a look at the Basemark Web score below. Basically, web pages on this phone render as fast as your connection allows. The A15 also ensures that the phone is going to work well with iOS upgrades for at least the next five years.

The efficient A15 processor leads to notably better battery life compared with the older SE, too. On the 2020 iPhone SE, I got 5 hours and 57 minutes of video playback time over Wi-Fi on this one, I got 7 hours and 20 minutes. That result is still shorter than any other current iPhone, including the iPhone 13 mini , however. And given the power demands of 5G networks, I expect it to last around five to six hours of screen-on time over a 5G connection. So, despite the battery life improvement, you shouldn’t pick the iPhone SE if you use your phone heavily.

Apple iPhone Se Specs

Apple’s 2022 iPhone SE is one of the fastest smartphones in the world, not to mention the smallest and most affordable iPhone that unlocks access to most of the latest 5G network bandsnot bad considering it starts at $429. But you should demand a little more from your device, especially in terms of battery life, hardware design, and camera features. If you own an older model and want a more future-proof phone, or you simply dont want to spend a lot more on a high-end handset, the new iPhone SE is definitely worth considering. But the admittedly pricier iPhone 13 remains our Editors Choice winner in Apple’s current lineup.

Classic iPhone Design With A 47

The iPhone SE sticks with a classic iPhone design thats identical to the second-generation and truthfully resembles an iPhone 8. Its a glass front and back with aluminum sides. The 4.7-inch Retina HD display is surrounded by bezels with a home button below the screen for easy unlocking through Touch ID. Like on the second gen, the home button is an electronic one powered by a haptic motor so when the phone is dead or off, the button wont click in.

The iPhone SE is comfortable to hold and can easily be used with just one finger. Thats refreshing and cant be said about the iPhone 13 Pro Max. And holding it next to an iPhone 13 Pro Max makes it seem downright miniature.

The back glass is upgraded here for added durability. Apple says its the same glass found on the iPhone 13, and that should help prevent it from cracks and scratches. The SE is IP67 rated against water and dust resistance, and it survived a full dunk into a glass of water.

Apple didnt opt to add MagSafe wireless charging support here. This proprietary charging tech debuted on the iPhone 12 but ensures proper alignment with compatible wireless chargers, thanks to magnets. While we get that Apple is using a similar design style and likely the same parts it would have been nice to see this added in for more wireless charging options.

Lastly, since this is the same build, second-generation iPhone SE cases and iPhone 8 cases fit this device just fine.

What To Expect

We think Apple will introduce the next edition of its SE in the spring, following by two years its last update in April 2020. The latest report suggests that, despite component shortages, production is on schedule and will begin in December. In recent news, Apples leading iPhone manufacturing partner recently began recruiting 200,000 workers for its factory in Shenzhen.

Theres a chance Apple will replace the iPhone mini with the SE on the basis that the division between the two means neither product seems clear. This would be a great shame for users who like smaller iPhones.

The UDN report claims the new SE will have a 4.7-in. screen, Touch ID, and ship with an iPhone 8-style chassis. For reference, the iPhone 13 mini is 131.5mm x 64.2mm x 7.65mm while the iPhone 8 was 138.4mm x 67.3mm x 7.3mm. Which means you get less screen in a larger device, which doesnt really sell it to me.

I continue to believe there is space for a smaller iPhone, and as I wrote recently, the iPhone mini 13 really is a joy to use.

Why Is 5g Bad

5G is not inherently bad, but the emergence of 5G has awakened widespread health fears and rumors about the effects it could have on the public.

Medical professionals and scientists attest that 5G does not pose any kind of public health risk.6 It does not cause COVID-19, as some online trolls have claimed. It also wont give you cancer or burn your skin. Millimeter-wave 5G signals do not penetrate the skin and are not transmitted at a high enough wattage to have any impact on your body.

Apple iPhone Se 2022 Vs iPhone : Design Display

The older iPhone SE launched in three colours: black, white and RED. This years iPhone has slightly different colours compared to the previous version as weve highlighted above.

The older iPhone SE had an aerospace-grade aluminium and glass body with an all-black front, and while this continues on the iPhone SE 2022, there are subtle changes. Apple says the glass on the front and back is the toughest they have used to date. This is the same glass as seen on the back of the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 so it should ensure better durability. The new iPhone SE continues with the IP67 dust and water resistance rating.

Just like the original iPhone SE, the new iPhone SE 5G has the same 4.7-inch display. The display resolution remains 1334 x 750-pixel at 326 PPI. This is a True Tone display with support for a Wide colour display and Haptic Touch. It has a maximum brightness of 625 nits.

Apple has retained the Home button on the front with support for Touch ID fingerprint scanner.

5G is different from 4G because its the newest form of wireless technology. Mainly it improves speeds and performance for cell phone users. But it also makes cellular carriers more versatile, allowing them to use their networks for the home, the car, hospitals, and factories.

Even where you can get 5G, you can only access it with a costly 5G phoneand youll still spend the majority of your phone time on a 4G LTE network.

This will, no doubt, change in the coming years, as cellular carriers expand their 5G networks and prices drop on 5G phones.
