First iPhone Release Date June 29 2007

iOS 15.1 Released Whats New?

In the months and even years leading up to the release of the first iPhone, rumors had been swirling around the web about an iPod that could also work as a phone. So, when Steve Jobs finally took the stage at the MacWorld convention on June 29th, 2007 to announce Were going to reinvent the phone, iPhone history begun, and the era of smartphones was officially upon us.

To say that Jobs was right that this new product would disrupt the world of phones is an understatement. By September of the same year, Apple had sold its millionth iPhone. Since then, sales have grown steadily, and by 2017, they had sold more than 2 billion iPhones. But what was so special and unique about this first iPhone?

First iPhone Controversy: Early Adopter Tax

While the first iPhone was universally hailed as redefining personal communication, it wasnt without controversy.

Its initial recommended retail price of $599 was well beyond the cost of a typical mobile phone. While this didnt deter tens of thousands of Apple fans queuing for hours to get their hands on one, there were some vocal members of the public who complained about the price.

Apple eventually caved to the public pressure and reduced the price to $399 after less than three months after release. Whilst those who had delayed their purchase were happy with the decision, Apples early adopters were outraged at having to pay an additional $200.

Apple ultimately listened to the growing frustrations of their most loyal supporters and gave them a $100 Apple gift voucher. Not exactly $200, but enough to show their supporters they were valued.

iPhone 113 Jailbreak Released

Nate True, part of the iPhone Dev Team has released the iPhone 1.1.3 jailbreak! In order for this 1.1.3 jailbreak to work, you must start with an existing jailbreaked 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 iPhone! This release currently is for Windows users only, with a Mac version coming later. Lets get into what is involved with this 1.1.3 jailbreakshall we?

Basically, the run down on the steps involved go as followsaccording to Nate Trues blog:

Heres how you do it: Start with a 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 jailbroken phone with Installer.app installed. Plug in your phone via USB to your computer. Download, extract, and run iBrickr Special 1.1.3 jailbreak edition . iBrickr will determine what firmware you are running on your phone and make sure you can run the update. iBrickr will then guide you through the process of obtaining and modifying the 1.1.3 firmware . iBrickr will upload the new firmware image to your phone. Note that this only puts the file on your phone and does not modify it at all, yet. When iBrickr finishes , it will tell you to go to Installer and install the 1.1.3 soft upgrade package. Do that. When the installer finishes , your phone should reboot with a fresh activated 1.1.3 firmware.

This update doesnt come without some controversy though. According to Jon Zdziarsks blog:

*Warning* As with any other jailbreak/upgrade, there are risks involved! Please back up, and only attempt this if youre well aware of what the consequences might be!

iPhone 6 Controversy : Bendgate

Within weeks of the launch of the iPhone 6 and the U2 drama, another issue became apparent: the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus would bend if enough pressure was applied.

Apple denied that Bendgate was the result of any design or manufacturing flaw and that only 9 people had experienced any issues under normal use conditions. Although, they did acknowledge that as per their warranty conditions if the iPhone had been subject to normal use conditions and was faulty, it would be replaced.

Despite their public denials of any design or manufacturing issues, internal Apple documents, unsealed in 2018 by Lucy Koh in the Touch Disease class-action lawsuit, show that Apple was aware that the iPhone 6 was 3.3 times more likely to bend than the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 6 Plus was 7.2 times more likely to bend.

Apple eventually made significant design changes to help prevent this issue with the addition of Series 7000 space-grade aluminum, even though they have never publically acknowledged an issue existed.

iPhone 6 Controversy : An Unwanted Gift

iPhone 1 vs iPhone 7 Plus: this is how far we

To coincide with the release of the iPhone 6, Apple struck a deal with U2 to release their new album Songs of Innocence exclusively on iTunes as a gift to all iTunes users. This not only resulted in the largest album release of all time, with over half a BILLION users in the Apple database but also considerable backlash from those who didnt want it.

The negative press eventually led to Apple releasing a tool that allowed users to remove the album from their purchase history.

Encryption And Intelligence Agency Access

It was revealed as a part of the 2013 mass surveillance disclosures that the American and British intelligence agencies, the National Security Agency and the Government Communications Headquarters have access to the user data in iPhones, BlackBerrys, and Android phones, respectively. They can read almost all smartphone information, including SMS, location, emails, and notes.

According to an article in The New York Times titled “Signaling Post-Snowden Era, New iPhone Locks Out N.S.A.”, Apple has developed a new encryption method for iOS 8, described as “so deep that Apple could no longer comply with government warrants asking for customer information to be extracted from devices.”

The GrayKey, manufactured by Grayshift, can unlock iPhones, even if they are disabled. As a countermeasure, Apple implemented USB Restricted Mode.

As of April 2016, Apple’s privacy policy addresses requests from government agencies for access to customers’ data: “Apple has never worked with any government agency from any country to create a ‘backdoor’ in any of our products or services. We have also never allowed any government access to our servers. And we never will.” In 2015 the Electronic Frontier Foundation awarded Apple five out of five stars “commend Apple for its strong stance regarding user rights, transparency, and privacy.”

First iPhone Countries And Carriers

iOS 15.1 Released – What’s New?

By Christmas of 2007, Apple dropped these prices, much to the chagrin of consumers, and this helped to boost sales. But one of the things that really held back iPhone sale in the beginning, even though the numbers are still quite staggering, was that the phone was only available in limited countries and on limited networks.

In the U.S., for example, the iPhone was only offered through the wireless carrier Cingular. This would change in the coming years, but an exclusivity contract between the two companies meant that one needed to be a Cingular customer to enjoy the state-of-the-art technology included in the iPhone.

In addition to the United States, the iPhone was also sold in the United Kingdom and Germany using similar exclusive contracts like the one between Apple in Cingular.

During its first year, the iPhone also became available in Belgium and the Netherlands, as well as France. However, Apple soon ran into legal trouble as many European phone carriers sued Apple for its exclusivity contract, a move which caused a temporary halt to iPhone sales in Europe. However, despite this limited release, iPhones got into the hands of people all over the world and expanding the market became a defining characteristic of the next chapter of iPhone history.

iPhone 11 Pro And 11 Pro Max Features

Apple has announced an iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max that will retail for $999 and $1,099.

Color-wise, theres a new midnight green color, a refreshed space gray, refreshed silver, and a new gold finish. Apple is also promoting a wider dynamic range display called Super Retina XDR. As was rumored, it has a new triple camera system a triangular array of lenses in a rectangular camera bump.

Apple has added the ultra-wide lens on both the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max, which is shown in the Camera app as a 0.5x button. All a user has to do is just zoom out to see more and take wider shots, from 0.5x to 2x. The ultra-wide has an f/2.4 aperture with a 120-degree field of view.

There are also upgrades to the telephoto and wide-angle lenses, including 100% Focus Pixels. There is a new Night mode to take illuminated low-light photos similar to the Google Pixel Night Sight feature.

Apple is using computational photography to fuse photo data from all three lenses in order to improve image detail. A technology called Deep Fusion combines nine images using a neural network analysis on every single pixel. Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller described it as computational photography mad science.

Like with the non-Pro version, Apple has upgraded the front camera with a 12-megapixel sensor. The camera is also wider so you can now rotate to landscape on the selfie cam to fit more people into the frame. There is also slow-mo on the front camera for the first time.

iPhone 3g Pricing Model Changes

With the July 11, 2008 release of the iPhone 3G, Apple and AT& T changed the US pricing model from the previous generation. Following the de facto model for mobile phone service in the United States, AT& T would subsidize a sizable portion of the upfront cost for the iPhone 3G, followed by charging moderately higher monthly fees over a minimum two-year contract.

iPhone 3g Countries And Networks

As Steve Jobs mentioned when introducing the iPhone 3G, Apple made it a priority to expand its market presence to many more countries. So, when the iPhone 3G hit the market on July 11th, 2008, it was sold in stores in the following countries:

  • Australia
  • Slovakia
  • Uruguay

However, despite expanding to new countries, Apple continued to make use of exclusivity contracts with certain carriers. For example, in the U.S., the iPhone was still only available through one network, AT& T . However, elsewhere in the world, these exclusivity contracts were not as ironclad. The iPhone was sold on multiple networks in counties throughout Europe, and this was a sign of what was to come in the next phases of iPhone history.

iPhone 13 Review: Display

  • Brighter display easier to read in direct sunlight
  • Stellar colors and contrast

Alas, the iPhone 13 doesnt boast the adaptive 120Hz refresh rate of the iPhone 13 Pro, but its still a stellar OLED panel. This Super Retina XDR display is now 28% brighter than the iPhone 12 its also rated at 800 nits, compared to 600 nits for last years phone.

In my testing, I wouldnt say the brightness difference is dramatic, but it can help when youre trying to view the iPhone 13s display in direct sunlight.

The overall display quality continues to be stellar. When watching the trailer for The Matrix Resurrections, I was mesmerized by the neon code encircling Neo as he walked down the street, and in another scene I could make out individual hairs on Neos beard as he stared up into the sun.

On our lab tests, the iPhone 13 averaged 795 nits of brightness, compared to 569 nits for the iPhone 12 and 702 nits for the Galaxy S21. The iPhone 13 also registered 78.1% of the DCI-P3 color gamut and 110.2% of the sRGG color gamut, where higher numbers are better. The iPhone 12 hit 81.1 and 114.5 and the Galaxy S21 77.4 and 109.2.

The iPhone 13 panels color accuracy is stellar, too, as it achieved a Delta-E score of 0.26 That compares to 0.29 for both the Galaxy S21 and iPhone 12.

Apple Releases Ios 1511 To Fix Dropped Call Issues On iPhone 12 And iPhone 13

If you’re having issues with dropped calls on your iPhone 12 or iPhone 13, install the latest iOS 15 update.

The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini.

Apple on Wednesday released a minor update to iOS 15, bringing the current version to iOS 15.1.1. The update has a single item in the changelog: improves call drop performance on iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models.

The update for my iPhone 13 Pro Max wasn’t very big — coming in at 385MB. Without more details in the changelog than call performance improvements, I don’t expect there to be any other notable tweaks or changes. Maybe some performance and bug fixes that weren’t worth mentioning, but that’s about it.

It actually appears that the update is only available for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13.

I personally haven’t had any issues with dropped calls on the iPhone 12 Pro or my iPhone 13 Pro Max since upgrading. But it’s clear that enough iPhone owners have had issues to prompt Apple to release an update.

If you’ve experienced dropped call issues on your iPhone 12 or iPhone 13, give iOS 15.1.1 a try and let us know if you see an improvement in the comments below.

Release Date: September 16 2016

Just about a year after the release of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, Apple once again unleashed a new set of its signature device. At first glance, the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus dont appear to be all that different from the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, but there was one major change to the appearance. Apple got rid of the headphone jack. This was the first time in iPhone history that users would have to connect their headphones via BlueTooth, and the company was heavily criticized for this move.

However, most people liked what Apple did with the rest of the phone. For example, this was the first iPhone to be water and dust resistant, and the introduction of iOS 10 made apps such as Maps, Photos, and Music run more smoothly, and it also introduced some new features to Messages, such as special effects for messages.

As for other upgrades, the iPhone 7 received the usual gambit of improvements, such as an improved processor and better battery life. Screen sizes stayed basically the same, as did screen resolution and pixel density. In addition to screen size, the 7 Plus featured two rear cameras to help deliver even better quality images. However, beyond this, the two phones were pretty much the same. Here is a summary of the what was new with the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus:
