iPhone X: Zover Magnetic Detachable Wallet Case (Can Wirelessly Charge too)

Apple’s iPhone X models offer a variety of cutting edge features, such as Face ID technology, and they supports native wireless charging just like the iPhone 8 .

The iPhone X supports fast-charging via its wired Lightning connector and 7.5W wireless charging through a Qi-compatible pad or dock.

Computerworld reviewed four wireless chargers that can power up both a smart phone and a smart watch at the same time.

Apple stores sell both Belkin and Mophie brand wireless charging pads, which it claims represents the best implementation of the Qi standard. But those models are also pricey and you can use any pad or dock that conforms to the Qi-wireless charging specification.

Fast charging is basically anything greater than a standard 5W of power transfer. While it remains to be seen what Apples upcoming AirPower charging pad will enable in terms of fast charging 7.5W or 15W currently fast charging an iPhone X using 7.5W will bring it to 50% after a half hour.

iPhones That Support Wireless Charging

How to wirelessly charge your iPhone 7

The iPhone models that support wireless charging feature glass backs, which enable their receiver coils to connect with a charging pads induction coil.

You can, however, install a protective cover on your iPhone and still take advantage of wireless charging. Avoid cases that store items with magnetic strips or RFID chips, like credit cards, passports, hotel keys, and so on, as the recharging process could damage their functionality. Either remove these items before you charge your phone or use a different protective cover.

Thick cases and covers might also be problematic. If charging doesnt start automatically, remove the case, and try again.

The following iPhones are compatible with wireless charging:

  • iPhone 11 Pro Max

Use Qi Wireless Charger

You can use an existing Qi-certified wireless charger or charging pad to wirelessly charge your iPhone 13 with speeds up to 7.5 watts. A lot of these chargers are available from brands such as Mophie, Belkin, Otterbox, and even at Apple stores.

Besides slow-charging speed, the downside of Qi chargers is that the charging speed can drop if your iPhone has a thick case.

Tesla Wireless Phone Charger

In August, Tesla launched its first Qi-based smartphone charger, which also doubles as a standard wired powerbank using a USB-A output port and either your own USB cable or the integrated USB-C cable. The inductive wireless charger only offers 5W of charging power versus “fast” chargers that can put out 7.5W or more. Regardless of the output, this charger is selling like hotcakes and was recently “relaunched” by Tesla after selling out. The good news? Tesla just lowered the price from $65 to $49 .

In Cantonese, the local language of Hong Kong, the slogan could be mistakenly interpreted as “This is penis“. “Tsat“,, is a common slang term for an erect penis, and “seven”, , which varies only in tone, is often used as a euphemism.

How Does Wireless Charging Work

Top 10 Best Can the iPhone 7 Charge Wirelessly Comparison

Wireless charging is based on inductive charging, whereby power is created by passing an electrical current through two coils to create an electromagnetic field.

When the receiving magnetic plate on the mobile device comes into contact with the transmitter – or at least within the specified range – the magnetic field generates an electrical current within the device.

This current is then converted into direct current , which in turn charges the built-in battery.

What Kind Of Tech Does iPhones Wireless Charging Use

It probably doesnt come as a surprise that there are competing wireless charging standards. The standard Apple uses is Qi wireless charging. Qi is also the standard supported by most Android phones.

And when it comes to things like wireless charging, standards are important because they ensure your smartphone will charge on any available wireless charging pad on offer. For example, some McDonalds and Starbucks have built-in wireless chargers in the restaurants tabletops. These chargers are usually Qi-certified chargers, which means all iPhones and most Android phones can get a battery top-up while you much your food.

Dont Use Apples Magsafe Charger With The iPhone 11

Apple now makes a wireless charger called MagSafe. It has a built-in magnet that helps it attach and align to the built-in charging coils on the iPhone 12 series. But while you can technically use the MagSafe charger with non-iPhone 12 models, you should avoid doing so, reports MacRumors:

The MagSafe Charger is technically able to be used with older iPhones, but its not a good idea because the charging with non-iPhone 12 devices is so slow.

We did two tests with the iPhone XS Max, draining the battery down to 1 percent, putting it in Airplane Mode, and then charging for a half an hour.

In the first test, the MagSafe charger charged the iPhone XS Max to 13 percent in 30 minutes, and in the second test, it charged the iPhone XS Max to 14 percent in 30 minutes.

Weve tested a lot of Qi-based wireless chargers and have never seen 7.5W Qi charging speeds that slow. For reference, a 7.5W charger is able to charge an iPhone to about 25 percent in a half hour.

Replacing The Home Button

Why I Started Wirelessly Charging My iPhone X…

In the iPhone 7, Apple added a software lock that prevents individuals from attempting to replace the home button on their own. Users are now required to go to an Apple Store to have repairs done, with “recalibration” of the button being necessary. This is a step further than Apple went with iPhone 5S, 6 and 6S, where only Touch ID functionality would get disabled but the “return-to-home” functionality still worked.

Its a bit pricier than others at $60 but its on sale now for $32.

How To Wirelessly Charge An Older iPhone

iPhone models older than the iPhone 8 and iPhone 11 don’t have the necessary electronics to support wireless charging, so you can’t simply add a wireless charging pad to an older iPhone and expect it to charge.

But there are a number of wireless charging cases you can purchase for an older iPhone that add wireless charging the downside, of course, is that your iPhone will only charge wirelessly while in the special case, and these cases tend to add some weight and bulk to your iPhone.

And these charging cases also take over the Lightning port, so you can’t plug anything else into that port while it’s in the case.

Even so, you might appreciate the freedom and convenience that comes from adding wireless charging to an older phone.

There are many wireless charging cases available for various iPhone models. Cases like the Mophie Juice Pack Wireless include a battery for extended runtime, and are compatible with the same Qi charging pads as newer iPhones.

Apple iPhone Wireless Charging

Apple, a member of the Wireless Power Consortium, introduced wireless charging in their 10th anniversary iPhone X model, together with the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus in 2017. These were followed in 2018 with the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR, and in 2019 Apple also released the second-generation AirPods with an upgraded Wireless Charging Case. All of these handsets use the Qi wireless charging standard. Previous models are compatible with wireless chargers with the use of an accessory or add-on.

What Is The Standard For Wireless Charging

Can iPhone 6 Be Charged Wirelessly / Amazon Com iPhone 6 ...

The main wireless standard is Qi . Qi is a standard that has been developed by the Wireless Power Consortium for inductive charging over distances of up to 40mm.

Qi wireless charging has been adopted by many of the major smartphone manufacturers: Samsung, Apple, Sony, LG, HTC, Huawei, Nokia , Motorola and Blackberry. It’s also being incorporated inside numerous vehicles now too.

Another wireless charging standard was Powermat. It was used by some retailers such as Starbucks to enable customers to charge their phones. But it lost the format war if you like, so Powermat said in 2018 that it would develop commercial wireless charging technology compatible with Qi.

Qi has three separate power specifications, beginning with low power, which is primarily what we’re talking about here, for charging mobile devices. At the moment there are several wattages that can be applied to this. 5W is a minimum, while some handsets support 7.5W, 10W and up to 15W and then onto 30W in a later version of the standard. However, individual companies can develop their own technologies to deliver faster wireless charging speeds.

Is Wireless Charging Truly Wireless

Sadly, the answer is no. Though the technology is referred to as wireless charging there still are wires involved.

Thats because in order to charge your iPhone wirelessly, you need to have a wireless charging pad, which itself needs to be plugged into power. You can then set your iPhone 11 on this charging pad where it transfers a charge via conduction from the pad to the iPhone.

However, since the pad requires a wire, that means the wireless charging pas is, essentially, not much different than a typical USB to Lightning cable. The iPhone need to be physically touching the wireless charging pad to be charged just like the iPhone needs to be physically plugged into the Lightning cable to be charged.

Doesnt sound that wireless does it?
