How Good Is The iPhone Se

iPhone SE Camera Review: As Good as iPhone 11?

The rear camera on the SE has the same specs as the iPhone 8, but when combined with the A13 chip and iOS 13 it transforms the camera into something that can compete with the best phone cameras, and even go toe-to-toe with the main rear camera on the iPhone 11. It has a slew of features, including Smart HDR for photos, Quick Take filming and Portrait Mode — these are impressive features and a first for a $399 iPhone.

The iPhone SE has a single rear camera that has SmartHDR and Portrait Mode for photos.

The rear camera on the SE has a 28mm f1.8 lens while the iPhone 11 has two rear cameras: a main wide-angle camera with a 26-mm f1.8 lens and an ultrawide-angle camera with a 13mm f/2.4 lens. I do enjoy the ultrawide-angle on the iPhone 11 but I didn’t miss it during my time with the iPhone SE.

When I compare photos taken with each phone, it’s hard to distinguish between them unless you bring them onto a larger screen and even then the differences are subtle.

In good light, photos from each are similar in terms of image quality. Look at the pictures below of a tree I took in my backyard. Can you tell the difference? You see my point. The most obvious difference is that the iPhone SE photo is framed tighter than the iPhone 11.

Here are a few other photos from the iPhone SE.

The iPhone SE is great at capturing accurate colors.

Smart HDR is impressive in keeping the sky from blowing out and the shadows relatively free of image noise.

Before You Start Shooting With Your iPhone Se Camera

When you get a new phone, its always tempting to just transfer everything over from your old device and get started. But this presents a problem. If theres old junk cluttering up your current iPhone, the last thing you want to do is transfer it all over to a new iPhone SE. Clean up some of the mess in your photo library with Gemini Photos, an app that scans your photo library for duplicates, blurry photos, and similar-looking images and helps you quickly get rid of them.

Tidying up your library is simple. Once you onto your original phone, heres how you delete the duplicates:

  • Open Gemini Photos.
  • From the list of categories, tap Duplicates.
  • Select a group of duplicate photos and select which versions you want to delete.
  • Tap Delete Duplicates.
  • After you clear out your duplicates, you can tap Your Library to clean up other categories like Similar, Blurred, Screenshots, or Notes.

If you accidentally delete a picture, dont worry. Gemini Photos only moves those pics to your Recently Deleted album. But if you need to free up some space right away, just open the Photos app and navigate to Albums > Recently Deleted > Select > Delete All.

Apple iPhone Se Review: A Cheap iPhone That Feels Premium In Almost Every Way

The new iPhone SE nails the important stuff and gives you the build quality of an iPhone Pro for less than half the price

The iPhone SE 2020 is the best cheap smartphone for most people its camera, build quality and speed all match more expensive phones. Its smaller screen will also please those who feel left behind by ever-larger devices.

    • No haptic touch on lock screen

To sum up this iPhone SE review: this is still one of the best cheap phones you can buy in 2021 because it brings high-end features to a low-end price. We liked it so much that the Apple iPhone SE won Best Mid-Range Phone at the T3 Awards 2020.

The stroke of genius in the iPhone SE range is that it manages to cut a lot of costs without feeling like it has you get a full-fat iPhone experience , powered by the latest processor that’s also found in the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11.

Not only does that chip make the iPhone SE speedy, capable and efficient, it also helps to boost the quality of shots from the camera by packing in advanced image processing to improve detail and colour reproduction.

You can see how the iPhone SE stacked up against some of the other older iPhones here iPhone SE vs iPhone 11 vs iPhone XR.

The three main things people tend to want from a new phone are for it to respond quickly, for it to get better battery life, and for it to take good shots so let’s dig into just how well the iPhone SE achieves those, as well as everything else you need to know about it.

    Se More Like Setting Example

Making a smartphone has become a rat race in 2020. Some want to make the most powerful phone, some the ultimate all-screen one. Some want to put in gobs of RAM and megapixels, others want to achieve lightning fast charging. The idea is simple. Throw in as many specs and features as you possibly can and see what sticks.

While conventional brands like Samsung continue to charge a hefty premium for some of these innovations, new-age brands like Xiaomi and OnePlus have been challenging that status quo through their aggressive pricing, a strategy that has given rise to the so-called flagship killer.

In either case, it is a win-win situation for buyers because they can cherry-pick what suits them best. But there is another side to this story, one that is also accentuated by the ongoing pandemic. Even as the shelf life of smartphones is declining across retail as they are fast replaced by newer models the reverse is true for buyers who would rather have something reliable that they can hold on to for longer. Specs matter, but experience matters more.

Suddenly, you are left with fewer options and that is something to think about. The iPhone comes to mind as a compelling option, but iPhones are usually an expensive proposition unless you go for an older model. Apple wants to change that notion with the new iPhone SE.

It is easy to decode an iPhone it just works.

    Portrait Mode And Portrait Lighting

Apple iPhone SE 128gb Space Gray

While there aren’t two cameras, the iPhone SE does support Portrait Mode, Portrait Lighting, and Depth Control using the image signal processor and the Neural Engine for computational photography. The iPhone SE is the first iPhone that uses a purely software solution to enable Portrait Mode.

Portrait Mode allows for artful blurring of the background in an image when taking a portrait photo of a person, pet, or object, while Portrait Lighting allows six studio-quality lighting effects to be added to images. Depth Control allows the amount of blur in an image captured in Portrait Mode to be tuned for the best possible blend of blurring and detail.

Apple iPhone Se Review : Should You Buy It

For $399, its hard not to recommend the iPhone SE. It has fantastic build quality, great cameras, and one of the fastest processors currently available. But this all comes with the caveat that you like iOS, and dont mind the restrictions that come with it. If you do buy this device, I would suggest spending the extra $50 to upgrade to the 128GB storage option, as 64GB is a bit low, especially for a phone slated to last you three to five years.

While I would absolutely recommend this phone to iOS fans, competes almost directly with the iPhone SE in the budget space. Its really a tit-for-tat between the two devices. The iPhone SE has a much faster processor, better build quality, and wireless charging, but the Pixel 4a sports a better OLED display, Googles fantastic Pixel UI, and the legendary Pixel camera system. Plus, the Pixel 4a costs. $50 less, at $350.

If youre willing to spend a little more, the OnePlus 7T is only $500 and offers a variety of cameras, great UI, and a fast 90Hz display. Or you can pick up a , which has just dropped to the same $500 price tag.

Spend a bit more, and you can pick up the OnePlus 8 for $700, which adds 5G connectivity and the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 865. A bit more still, and you could get the LG V60 for $800. And if you want to ball out, there are a plethora of great phones in the $900 plus range, like the Samsung Galaxy S20, OnePlus 8 Pro, and more.

Best Mobile Phone On The Market

Purchasedin November 2020at Telstra Storesfor $648.

Excellent choice considering not the high price of the iPhone 12. I bought a refurbished A Grade phone . Photos are excellent and took some of a burning fishing boat last week and put them on Facebook and now are being used by the local magazine. Night photos excellent clarity. As all IPhones its durability excellent and display brightness adjusted quickly with a touch of the button. I use my iPhone regularly to check emails both hotmail and Gmail, also Social Media and Foreign exchange trading uwith crypto wallets and it works excellent and very fast. All Apps run smoothly and load quickly and easily. Love this IPhone and very happy with it.

Don’t Miss: Is There A Way To Lock Messages On iPhone

Should You Buy The iPhone Se In 2021

Apple released the second generation iPhone SE last year in April, during the early days of coronavirus when the whole world was under lockdown. The interesting aspect of the iPhone SE has always been its price it is the cheapest iPhone ever made, retailing at just $399 .

The iPhone SE features a 4.7 HD Retina display on the front which is bright enough to be visible outdoors and it is capable of showing true to life colours as it supports P3 wide colour gamut. While the screen size is small and the resolution is not 1080p or higher, the display is good for basic use and occasional video watching.

The Next Mac Pro Should Complete Transition To Apple Silicon In Q4 2022

iPhone SE (2020): The Good & The Bad

Finally, for the hottest news today, let’s talk about Apple, Macs and the iPhone SE… Again. Starting with Macs, let’s talk about the company completing their transition into Apple Silicon. According to a new tweet from Dylan, this transition will end by Q4 of 2022, with the Mac Pro being the last device to be replaced. He claims that the processor on this machine would not be an extension from the M2, and instead it’ll be a further extension of the M1, even beyond the cores of the M1 Max. A previous report from Mark Gurman claimed that we can expect two dies in this machine, essentially forming a dual M1 Max design. Other rumors also point to a 3nm TSMC chip with up to 40 cores but, those are tipped until 2023. Moving on to the iPhone SE, we have another tweet from Ross Young that gives us an actual time frame for this phone. He claims that the iPhone SE 5G model is starting panel production this month, with the actual phone going into production this March. This means that the launch is likely for the 2nd half of April or early May, with shipments also going either in late April or Early May. And yes, it’ll still be the same design we currently get but, with a new processor and 5G capabilities.

    iPhone Se Review: Apple’s Cut

Top performance, good camera, long support and manageable size make cheaper iPhone a bargain

Apples latest iPhone SE is a surprise cut-price marvel that revives a classic iPhone design and trounces every other mid-range phone in the process.

The £419 iPhone SE takes the important bits of the iPhone 11 the processor and software and shoehorns them into the body of an iPhone 8 from 2017. You get a phone design largely unchanged from the iPhone 6 of 2014, with traditional home button, but the performance and longevity of a brand new Apple phone for £310 less than an iPhone 11.

Its a tantalising proposition, competing on price with a load of mid-range Android smartphones, including , but with top-level iPhone performance and service.

The iPhone 8s design was tired in 2018 and it is no different today. The 2020 iPhone SEs 4.7in screen is tiny by todays standards but the phones body isnt, because it eschews the modern all-screen design in favour of the old large bezels and chunky chin and forehead.

Simply put, theres a lot more phone than the small screen suggests. Those looking for a truly small phone such as the previous generation 4in iPhone SE will be disappointed.

The dimensions and materials are an exact match for the iPhone 8. Glass front and back, aluminium sides, a Touch ID fingerprint scanner in the home button, a Lightning connector in the bottom but no headphone socket nor Face ID.

The iPhone SE doesnt support 5G.

My Thoughts On The iPhone Se 2nd Gen

The 2nd Gen iPhone SE was released in April last year, which is not the typical launch time for Apple I have been using the phone for a couple of months now and so far I am loving Apple’s idea but some things need fixing in the future. I will list three pros and 3 cons.

Pros:I love that it has the A13 Bionic chipset which we also see in the iPhone 11 range. This is a small phone with great power.

The home button is essential to many apple users such as those who have upgraded from the iPhone 6/7/8 to this phone. great to see it back and woul…

    Purchasedin May 2021.

Good things can come in small packages.

The new iPhone SE packs a lot into a diminutive body, especially when you consider it costs $400, much less than other iPhones. And while it doesn’t come with the features and premium hardware needed to land it among Consumer Reports’ top-rated models, it still offers enough for us to recommend it.

As expected, the new SE falls short of Apple’s flagship devices when it comes to its cameras, battery, and charging capabilities. But not everybody needs the power and frills built into a $1,000 device, says Henry Parra, head of CR’s smartphone testing program.

“I think anyone with an iPhone 8, or another older model, will appreciate getting the faster processor while sticking to a limited budget,” Parra says.

The iPhone SE is really more of an update to the 2017 iPhone 8 than to the older SE. The new phone has the same shape and size as the iPhone 8. It has a similar but updated single-camera setup. And it offers similar battery life. In our labs the new SE logged 25.5 hours per charge the iPhone 8 lasted 27.

In comparison, the iPhone 11 Pro Max, a much larger phone, went an industry-leading 40.5 hours.

What Could Make You Buy It

When it comes to the sheer experience of using a smartphone, the iPhone SE is second to none, not even what Apple can offer. It can do anything and everything, from the top of the line AR apps to creating a portrait mode purely on its processing power and without the optics others need for it. Thats the A13 Bionic processor at work, syncing perfectly with the iOS 13. Thats what you should buy this phone for.

Along with the handy size, the iPhone SE has an elegant design. I loved the looks of the black unit I used over the past week. So much so, I think there is an incentive here to not put a cover on this one. Also, the phone offers water and dust resistance, which is very critical for the Indian market. Then the glass back of the phone also means this can support wireless charging and I tested it on the pad I have by my bed. With charging pads becoming cheaper, the SE makes wireless charging way more affordable than before.

The iPhone SE has only one 12MP /1.8 camera at the rear. But it still offers portrait mode as we have seen in other iPhones of late. The camera quality is good, capturing the subtle colours of the sky as well as details in portraits. The low-light images are fine, but some noise does creep in. It offers a decent bokeh too.
