How Wide Is The iPhone 11 Pro Max

iPhone 11 Pro Max vs SANDMARC: Ultrawide Shootout

After six months of use without a case, the backs of both the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro still didn’t have a single scratch or scuff. The textured matte glass back on the iPhone 11 Pro feels soft, smooth and durable. The phone is easy to grip and never feels like it’s going to slip out of my hand . I’m happy to say that fingerprint smudges don’t accumulate easily.

The iPhone 11, meanwhile, has a glossy glass back, which does feel slippery in my hand and the phone is prone to smudges, too.

As far as colors, the iPhone 11 gets things more right than the 11 Pro. You can buy an iPhone 11 in six bright and fun colors. The 11 Pro is less flashy and comes in four rather serious finishes . In a perfect world, I could have the matte glass finish of the 11 Pro and the color options of the 11.

The iPhones have wireless charging and support fast charging, but only the iPhone 11 Pro comes with the 18-watt charger that’s required for fast charging. It’s aggravating that the 11 doesn’t come with this charger and that you’ll have to buy it separately if you want it. To make matters worse, Apple charges $29 for the 18-watt fast charger and $19 for the required cable, when cheaper compatible alternatives are available.Winner: On colors alone, the iPhone 11 takes this one.

Currently The iPhone 11 Pro Max Has The Biggest Screen Of Any iPhone

But for the biggest iPhone screen around, you need to go a bit past the iPhone 11 and get an iPhone 11 Pro Max, which has a screen that’s 6.5 inches on the diagonal. This length ties the iPhone XS Max in diagonal display, but the iPhone 11 Pro Max measures 6.22 inches tall and is 3.06 inches wide compared to the iPhone XS Max’s 6.20 inch height and 3.05 inch width.

If that’s a bit large for you but you still want crazy good processing power and cameras, the iPhone 11 Pro has a 5.8 inch screen measured on the diagonal, and it still has the same processing power, display clarity, and those three cameras that the mighty iPhone 11 Pro Max boasts.

iPhone 11 Pro In Midnight Green Isn’t As Ugly As You’ve Heard

The new slow-mo video mode for the front-facing camera is fun, but not a must-have feature by any means. Still, we wouldn’t be surprised if other phone-makers cribbed this one.

Swapping among the three camera lenses on the Pro and Pro Max feels seamless, and a new “Haptic Touch” feedback that Apple’s using instead of 3D Touch is pretty easy to invoke on the sharp new display — just hold down your finger.

What Features Are Only In The Pro Phones

There are a number of higher-end features that are available in the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max.

  • The Pro phones are designed with textured matte glass and stainless steel the iPhone 11 lacks the textured glass and is made of aluminum.
  • The displays on the Pro phones have Apples Super Retina OLED displays, while the iPhone 11 has a more prosaic Liquid Retina LCD display.
  • Want a fast charger without paying extra for it? Youve got it. The Pro phones will come with a USB-C 18W wall charger and USB-C to Lightning cable.
  • The Pro phones have more robust water resistance than the 11: the former can handle four meters of water for 30 minutes, while the latter will last for 30 minutes under two meters of water.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 11 Pro: Display

Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max (512GB)

The screen is one of the biggest differences between the 11 and the 11 Pro, thanks to the technology involved as well as the size and resolutions.

Lets start with the sizing. The iPhone 11 comes in just one size: 6.1 inches . The iPhone 11 Pro comes in two sizes: 5.8 inches, and the 6.5 inch iPhone 11 Pro Max. So you can kind of take your pick when it comes to your size preferences, from reasonably one-hand friendly up to definitely a two-hander. That said, remember that the iPhone 11 has wider bezels than the 11 Pro, so the 6.1-inch iPhone 11 and the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max are quite close for size in the end.

However, theres more than just size to consider! The iPhone 11 has a resolution of 1,792 x 828, with a pixel density of 326ppi. Thats perfectly good, but isnt cutting edge for detail.

The 5.8-inch iPhone 11 Pro has a significantly sharper 2,436 x 1125 display at 458ppi. The 6.5-inch Max version has a 2,688 x 1,242 resolution, which again is 458ppi. So, if you want to see things in better detail, you need a Pro iPhone, but once youve gone Pro, the only difference is size, not sharpness.

The 11 Pros screen is also excellent for HDR, reaching a peak brightness in HDR video of 1,200 nits. The iPhone works with Dolby Vision video, so you get real HDR performance here from the OLED. The iPhone 11 screen doesnt do HDR at all.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 11 Pros: Cameras

This probably stands out as the big differentiator between the iPhone 11 models. The iPhone 11 features two rear cameras a 12-megapixel wide angle lens with an f/1.8 aperture and a 12-MP ultra wide lens with an f/2.4 aperture. That ultra wide lens delivers a 120-degree field of view so that you can capture more of your surroundings in images when you zoom out.

Those two cameras return on the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, but they’re joined by a third 12-MP lens. This telephoto lens features an f/2.0 aperture, letting in 40% more light than the telephoto lens Apple included on the iPhone XS. You get a 2x optical zoom from the telephoto lens.

Despite the extra lens on the Pro models, the three phones support many of the same camera features. Whether you have an iPhone 11 or one of the Pro models, a Night Mode feature should mean better pictures in low light. All three new phones offer QuickTake, a new camera function where you can capture video while also shooting still images just by long-pressing on the shutter. Even the Deep Fusion feature, which combines nine different shots for a more detailed image, works on the iPhone 11 just as it does on the iPhone 11 Pro.

All three phones also sport the same 12-MP front camera and offer the ability to take slow-motion videos a feature that Apple dubbed “slofies” to the rest of the world’s apparent amusement. Those front cameras can also shoot 4K video at 60 fps, too.

How To Use The Ultra Wide Camera On iPhone 11 And 12

One of the great additions with the iPhone 11 and 12 lineups is an ultra wide camera that allows users to capture a much greater field of view without needing an external lens. Read on for how to use the ultra wide camera on the iPhone 11 and 12, including how to manually dial in your focal length.

The iPhone 11 and 12 lineups have the latest cameras that include exclusive features like Night mode, a fresh interface to make use of the new ultra wide lens, and more.

One thing to keep in mind about the ultra wide camera on the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro is that it doesnt have optical image stabilization built in like the wide and telephoto cameras. So the steadier you can hold your iPhone when using the ultra wide lens, the better results youll get.

As for specs, the ultra wide camera on the latest iPhones has a 120-degree field of view, an f2.4 aperture, and a 5-element lens.

iPhone 11 Pro Review: Haptic Touch

The other thing I loved was 3D Touch. But that’s gone now. Apple created it and now they’ve killed it. Dead.

To make up for it, though, Apple has gone all in with the Haptic Touch they debuted on last year’s iPhone XR.

On one hand, it provides a lot cleaner, a lot more consistent user experience. Touch controls can easily become overloaded and 3D Touch would cause a lot of collisions for a lot people. Just ask anyone frustrated with trying to get an icon or especially a folder into jiggly mode.

Apple also never managed to scale 3D Touch to iPads, so you’d have a different experience on the small screen compared to the big one, which made it harder to build optimal interface habits.

Now, with iOS 13, the long press has won. Everything just works the same across all devices, but with Haptic Touch you still get that familiar force feedback on the iPhone. Just without all the speed and tactility of the deep press.

And that’s the drawback. A long press feels like it takes longer than a deep press, which makes the system feel ever-so-slightly slower. Also, while Haptic Touch is in more places now, it’s still not quite everywhere 3D Touch was.

It supports Home screen shortcuts, which is huge for me. Just press on an app and you get all the options plus a new one right at the top to go into jiggly mode and rearrange apps. Which, on its own, will fix so many collisions and is so great to see.

For everything else, though, haptic touch is winning me over.

iPhone 11 Pro Review: Performance

iPhone 11 Pro Max hands-on: Slowfie, ultra-wide lens, bright display | CNA Lifestyle

Like I mentioned in the iPhone 11 review, Apple’s latest, greatest system-on-a-chip, the A13 Bionic, manages to be both faster and less power hungry at the same time. 20% faster across the efficiency, performance, graphics, and neural engine cores, and 40, 25, 30, and 15% less power hungry respectively.

Part of that is thanks to TSMC’s second generation 7 nanometer process, which is what the A13 is fabricated on. The other part is Apple designing each and every one of its 8.5 billion transistors to be as performant and as efficient as possible. And then, Apple uses hundreds of voltage domains and hundreds of thousands of gate clocking domains so that they can only light up exactly the logic in the chipset they need to light up, keeping power draw at an absolute minimum.

There are also new machine learning accelerators providing for 6x faster matrix multiplication. Something I think even high-end Intel boxes might be envious of.

Apple calls it the fastest chipset ever in a smartphone and, based on prior performance, that’s likely only part of the story it’s probably faster than a lot of current desktop chips as well.

But, still, they support an ever-increasing amount of differentiating features on iOS devices, and they keep racing forward and dragging the industry behind them as fast as they can.

All of that translates into better and faster photo parsing, natural language processing, and augmented reality experiences in apps, and more.

Yeah, phew.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 11 Pro: Conclusion

When it comes to pure capability, theres no doubt that the iPhone 11 Pro is the better option for creatives, thanks to its more flexible triple-lens camera system and OLED screen thats superior for brightness and sharpness . The Max also offers the best battery life of the three, which is important for a day of intensive work.

However, both iPhone 11 Pro options are a lot more expensive, and given that the iPhone 11 offers the same colour accuracy on the screen, is just as capable at running apps and opening large files for viewing, and offers better battery life than the smaller 11 Pro, its still a really great buy. Also consider that the iPhone 11 Pro is no longer in production, which means a new, factory-sealed handset may be harder to come by if you care about that, of course.

We think most people will choose which to go for based on the budget they have in mind, and in all cases youll get a powerful phone with excellent screen quality and high-quality cameras. See below for today’s best prices on the iPhone 11, iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max.

Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max Camera Review

The Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max is the Cupertino tech giants latest and greatest flagship smartphone, featuring a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display, Apples latest A13 Bionic chipset, and up to 512GB of internal storage. Its also the first iPhone to come with a triple-camera setup. Next to the primary wide-angle and the tele-camera, which both offer the same focal length as on the predecessor XS Max, theres now also an ultra-wide camera with a 13mm-equivalent field of view.

On the image processing side of things, the new Deep Fusion technology uses the chipsets neural engine and advanced machine learning to perform pixel-by-pixel optimization for better textures, lower noise, and a wider dynamic range. Read our full review to find out how the new components play together.

Key camera specifications:

With an overall DXOMARK Camera score of 117, the Apple iPhone 11 Pro Max secures itself a top 5 position in our current ranking. Its Photo score of 124 puts it among the best for still images, and it shares the top spot for Video with the Xiaomi Mi CC9 Pro Premium Edition.

When shooting in bokeh simulation mode, the new iPhone achieves good results, but is not among the best. Slight depth estimation errors are visible in all conditions, but noise on subjects and in the background are improved compared to the XS Max.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 11 Pro Vs iPhone 11 Pro Max: The Specs

Model

The $999 iPhone 11 Pro and $1,099 iPhone 11 Pro Max, have since made way for the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max, which cost the same as their predecessors. The iPhone 11 has stuck around, but at a lower price you can have it for $599.

To encourage existing iPhone users to upgrade to new phones, Apple offers rebates if you trade-in your current phone. As of the end of April, you could knock up to $180 off the cost of an iPhone 11 by trading in an older iPhone. As for trade-in value for these older iPhone 11 models, they’ll fetch the largest return. Buy an iPhone 12, for example, and you can save $515 by trading in an iPhone 11 Pro Max an iPhone 11 will save you up to $465.

The iPhone 12 may be the new phone in town, but you’ll still find all three iPhone 11 models available at the major carriers. Should you be interested in an iPhone 11, make sure that it’s at a significant discount from its original price. For example, AT& T currently has a 256GB iPhone 11 Pro available for $17.50 a month over 30 months a substantial discount from that phone’s regular $1,049 asking price.

Cracked Screens And Waterproofing

We put both the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro through a test where we dropped them from different heights. After dropping them from 3-feet, 6-feet and 8-feet off the ground both phones survived without a single crack to their screens or glass backs. The only blemish was a small scuff to the iPhone 11’s aluminum band and a few damaged pixels on the bottom of the 11 Pro’s screen.

As far as water resistance, both of these phones are rated IP68. Apple claims the iPhone 11 can withstand being submerged at a depth of 6.5 feet up to 30 minutes and the 11 Pro can survive at a maximum depth of 13 feet up to 30 minutes. However, in our water tests with an underwater drone, the 11 and 11 Pro both survived being submerged for 30 minutes at 39 feet .

Which iPhone 11 Model Is Best

Having tested all three new iPhones, it’s clear that the iPhone 11 Pro Max was the best iPhone you can buy at the time and one of the best phones overall, thanks to its expansive screen and long battery life. It’s since been surpassed by Apple’s newer phones, and even with the iPhone 11 Pro Max’s price falling, it remains a pricey device.

Good thing, then, that the iPhone 11 is cheaper especially at its new price and offers comparable performance and good battery life of its own. In the end, that lower cost and the fact that Apple still sells the iPhone 11 may be the most important factors in deciding between the iPhone 11 vs the iPhone 11 Pro vs the iPhone 11 Pro Max.

Most upgraders will look to the iPhone 12 for their next handset, at least until the iPhone 13 arrives in the fall. But the iPhone 11 remains a compelling option since its features hold up well more than a year after its release.
