iPhone 11 Pro Max Summary
The biggest iPhone in Apple’s lineup, the iPhone 11 Pro Max looks like an incremental upgrade over the iPhone XS Max but it brings some significant changes under the hood. There’s a triple camera setup at the back now, letting you choose between the Wide, Ultra Wide, and Telephoto lenses.
The Camera app makes it seamless to pick one or the other, presenting the Ultra Wide camera as a 0.5x zoom, which is certainly an interesting perspective. All this is backed by improved HDR and a brand new Night Mode, which means you get excellent image and video quality in most conditions. For the first time in years, Apple’s phones not only compete, but often surpass the competition in terms of low light photography.
An area where Apple’s dominance has never really been in doubt has been chip design, and the new Apple A13 Bionic chip continues this tradition. From intensive gaming sessions to editing 4K videos on the go, iPhone 11 Pro Max will handle everything you throw at it with ease, and then some.
There are significant gains to be had in the battery life department as well, and even users with the heaviest of workloads shouldn’t have a problem lasting a full day. Most typical users will find the iPhone 11 Pro Max is, in fact, capable of lasting up to two days on a single charge. iOS 13 brings a host of new features and the promise of regular software updates.
iPhone 12 Pro Max Review: Cameras
The iPhone 12 Pro Max offers the best cameras on any phone, and thats saying something considering how good the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra and Pixel 5 are.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max has a larger main sensor than the iPhone 12 Pro, which is designed to deliver an 87 percent improvement in low light conditions vs the iPhone 11 Pro Max. The main lens on the iPhone 12 Pro Max also features a fast f/1.6 aperture and a LiDAR sensor for faster auto focus.
You also get a 2.5x optical zoom from the iPhone 12 Pro Maxs 12MP telephoto lens, which is behind the Note 20 Ultras 5x zoom but is better than the 2x on the iPhone 12 Pro.
As you’ll see in this gallery of iPhone 12 Pro Max images, the camera does a superb job in low light I’ve never been able to get good shot of the moon until I used this phone. The moon itself could be clearer, but the surrounding clouds are remarkably sharp.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max camera’s Smart HDR 3 capability also did an amazing job capturing a challenging scene of a river in the background of several trees with a complex mix of sunlight and shadows.
For camera comparisons, lets start with this photo of mums captured by the iPhone 12 Pro Max. The iPhones shot is a brighter and richer yellow, while the Pixel 5 shot turns the flowers more gold. Theres no pop to the Pixel photo.
The iPhone 12 Pro also beats the Pixel 5 in this shot of produce. Theres much more of a sheen to the peppers in the iPhones image. Googles photo looks flat and dull by comparison.
iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 11 Pros: Battery Life
The iPhone XR and XS releases introduced us to an upside-down world where Apple’s least expensive model, the iPhone XR, also had the longest-lasting battery. Apple says the XR was the longest lasting iPhone it ever built, and the company wasn’t kidding it turned in a time of 11 hours, 26 minutes on our battery test, which was nearly an hour better than the iPhone XS Max’s result.
Order was restored to the universe with the iPhone 11 lineup. The iPhone 11 Pro Max takes the long-lasting iPhone crown by lasting an average of 11 hours and 54 minutes while continuously surfing the web over LTE. The iPhone 11 also turned in a good result of 11:16, though that’s a few minutes behind the XR’s result. Both those iPhones landed on our list of the best phone battery life we’ve seen on devices tested in the last 18 months.
The iPhone 11 Pro improved upon the below-average result of the iPhone XS, though at 10:24, its result was still roughly an hour behind the regular iPhone 11.
The iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max charge faster out of the box. Those models ship with an 18-watt charger. On the iPhone 11 Max, we got the battery up to 55% after 30 minutes of charging good, though the Note 10 Plus and OnePlus 7 charge faster. The iPhone 11 supports faster charging, too, though you’ll have to buy your own 18W adapter.

iPhone 12 Pro Max Review: Display
With its 6.7-inch OLED display, the iPhone 12 Pro Maxs OLED panel is smaller but brighter than the 6.9-inch Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. When watching Stranger Things, I enjoyed an explosion of colors that almost made me forget I was holding a phone.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max also happens to offer the most color-accurate display weve ever tested. The panel registered 0.07 on the Delta-E test, where 0 is perfect. The Note 20 Ultra notched 0.24.
The iPhone 12 Pro Maxs display averaged 654 nits in our lab tests, compared to a slightly higher 662 nits for the Galaxy. But outdoors we found the iPhones screen easier to read in direct sunlight.
The only thing missing from the iPhone 12 Pro Max is a smooth 120Hz rate, which would have made for smoother scrolling and even better gameplay like it does on the latest Samsung flagships. Heres hoping for the iPhone 13.
iPhone 12 Pro Max Review: Price And Release Date
The iPhone 12 Pro Max came out last November 13 with a starting price of $1,099/£1,099 for 128GB of storage. Upgrading to 256GB costs $1,199/£1,199, and the 512GB version costs $1,399/£1,399.
The iPhone 12 Pro Max generally costs $100/£100 more than the regular iPhone 12 Pro regardless of the storage.
Note that the iPhone 12 Pro Max does not come with a charger. A fast 20W charger costs $19 and Apple’s MagSafe charger costs $39. See our iPhone 12 deals page for the latest discounts from retailers and all the major wireless carriers. If you buy your iPhone 12 Pro Max from Apple, for example, you can get up to $525 off the cost of the new iPhone by trading in your own device.

iPhone 11 Color Choice: Black Or White
While neutral tones–like the combination of black and white–are timeless, separately each color conveys a distinctive expression or emotion. For example, black signifies something modern, sophisticated, and impactful. While white, on the other hand, is airy, angelic, and pristine.
“We have a psychological attachment to black and white,” explained Eiseman, who said that black stands for chic, elegance, and power. While white is the yang to black’s yin. It channels purity, cleanliness, or a blank canvas.
“Though it certainly depends on the individual, people who lean toward neutral colors are strategic decision makers,” added Stewart. “They are confident in their work as they are able to back up their opinions and business moves with logic.”
These individuals, explained Stewart, will most likely be in career positions using the logical side of the brain including analytics, research, and mathematics.

iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 11 Pros: Cameras
This probably stands out as the big differentiator between the iPhone 11 models. The iPhone 11 features two rear cameras a 12-megapixel wide angle lens with an f/1.8 aperture and a 12-MP ultra wide lens with an f/2.4 aperture. That ultra wide lens delivers a 120-degree field of view so that you can capture more of your surroundings in images when you zoom out.
Those two cameras return on the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, but they’re joined by a third 12-MP lens. This telephoto lens features an f/2.0 aperture, letting in 40% more light than the telephoto lens Apple included on the iPhone XS. You get a 2x optical zoom from the telephoto lens.
Despite the extra lens on the Pro models, the three phones support many of the same camera features. Whether you have an iPhone 11 or one of the Pro models, a Night Mode feature should mean better pictures in low light. All three new phones offer QuickTake, a new camera function where you can capture video while also shooting still images just by long-pressing on the shutter. Even the Deep Fusion feature, which combines nine different shots for a more detailed image, works on the iPhone 11 just as it does on the iPhone 11 Pro.
All three phones also sport the same 12-MP front camera and offer the ability to take slow-motion videos a feature that Apple dubbed “slofies” to the rest of the world’s apparent amusement. Those front cameras can also shoot 4K video at 60 fps, too.

iPhone 12 / 12 Mini In Purple
This fresh purple hue was launched at Apple’s Spring Loaded event in April 2021, and it certainly has a spring feel to it: warmer weather, longer days, and so on. If you want to stand out from the crowd but don’t want anything too vibrant or too garish, then we think the new purple color is a good choice.
iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 11 Pros: Performance
On paper, there’s little to separate the iPhone 11 from the Pro models, as all three are powered by Apple’s A13 Bionic processor. And since the A12 Bionic from 2018’s phones already outperformed some Android flagships that came after, you’d be correct that the gap widens further with the A13, though the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 865 Plus powering 2020’s top Android phones pulled some models closer to the iPhone 11.
When introducing the iPhone 11 Pro, Apple told us to expect 20% performance improvements from the CPU, GPU and neural processor contained within the A13. And the newer chip is more energy efficient, too, with Apple touting a 40% improvement in power consumption just for the A13’s GPU.
In terms of benchmark results, the iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 11 Pro turned in comparable results on Geekbench 5, which measures overall performance The iPhone 11 was slightly behind with a multicore score of 3,251 a surprising difference given that all three iPhone 11 models have the same 4GB of RAM according to phone teardowns. Suffice it to say, even the iPhone 11 beat out the Geekbench 5 score of the Galaxy S20 the OnePlus 8 Pro topped the iPhone 11 with a multicore score of 3,379, though the iPhone 11’s single-core result still tops the latest OnePlus phone.

Apple iPhone 11 And 11 Pro Which Colour Would You Pick
Apples annual September event is always a happy moment for all of us. This year too kicked off with three innovative iPhones, the Watch Series 5, a new and larger iPad, updated iOS 13 and iPadOS. Among all, the trio of iPhones were the true showstoppers. Not just the highly impressive cameras, these iPhones make you gasp looking at the ten mesmerizing colours.
For the past few years, Apple has been found experimenting with new colour schemes, taking a different route from simple blacks to shades of grey. The last years iPhone XR was already a hit because of its six candy colours and the new arrivals are no exceptions. The iPhone 11 Pro and the 11 Pro Max are available in four colours, whereas the iPhone 11 is available in six attractive colours. You could go traditional and keep things simple with a black or white, or flaunt your iPhones with these other mesmerizing shades.
iPhone 11 Vs iPhone 11 Pros: Displays
It’s once again a tale of two displays for Apple’s different smartphones. Like the iPhone XR before it, the iPhone 11 makes do with an LCD panel, while the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max feature an OLED screen.
While little seems to have changed on paper about the iPhone 11’s 6.1-inch Liquid Retina, it turns out to be brighter than the one on the iPhone XR . The iPhone 11 registered 113% of the sRGB color gamut, which is nothing close to what you get with an OLED panel, though the iPhone 11’s colors are very accurate.
When you look at the Super Retina XDR display that graces the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max, though, you’ll get a sense of why these models cost more. Both phones are super bright the iPhone 11 Pro hit 752 nits on our light meter, while the 11 Pro Max topped 761. These are the phones you’re going to want to take outside.
The colors on the Super Retina XDR display aren’t as vibrant as what you’ll get from some OLED panels, though that’s a deliberate choice Apple makes in tuning its displays to be less saturated. The colors are accurate, though, with the iPhone 11 Pro Max recording a Delta-E score of 0.28.
One thing we’ve noticed with all three phones now that we’ve tested them the spatial audio feature really makes a difference when you’re watching videos. The wider sound stage, along with Dolby Atmos support, puts audio all around you, creating a more immersive experience.

iPhone 11 Pro Colors / iPhone 11 Pro Max Colors
What colors does the iPhone 11 Pro come in? Unlike Apples colorful options for the iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max are only available in the following colors: midnight green, space gray, silver, and gold.
Why are there fewer color options with the iPhone 11 Pro? Apple hasnt specified why this is the case. But if I were to speculate, I would say that it is because Apple sells fewer models of its Pro brand iPhones, so, in order to make production more efficient, it limits the number of available colors.
One of the biggest selling points of the iPhone XR, one of Apples most popular iPhone releases to date, was its color options. Apple took note of this and, since then, has made its entry-level iPhones the iPhone 11 in this context available in a range of colors. It also reduced the cost of the entry-level iPhone too, again, based on the success it had with the iPhone XR.
