The current newest model is the iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max all of which exist inside Apples 2021 iPhone 13 range. As of right now, the iPhone 13 is Apples newest iPhone so it is the one you get if you buy a brand new iPhone either from Apple or from a carrier and/or network.
But, were now over halfway through 2022, and that means an even newer iPhone isnt too far away from getting official. Im talking, of course, about the iPhone 14 this phone will get a launch and release date during the back end of 2022, likely in and around September.
Is it still worth buying an iPhone 13? Id argue, yes unless you HAVE to have the latest tech and you suffer from FOMO. I run an iPhone 13 and I plan on running it until the iPhone 15 comes out in 2023. Why? Because the iPhone 14 will not be that different from the iPhone 13 the updates look to be minor, so Im holding out until the iPhone 15 for more significant updates.

Using Face Id With A Mask
When wearing a face mask, users can enable an “Unlock with Apple Watch” feature for convenience. Unlock with Apple Watch allows iPhone users to take advantage of an unlocked and authenticated Apple Watch as an alternative authentication measure to unlock their device when wearing a mask. It can’t be used to authenticate Apple Pay or App Store purchases, and it can’t unlock apps that require a Face ID scan.
In iOS 15.4, Apple added the ability for Face ID to work with face masks, with no need for an Apple Watch for authentication. Apple says that the feature can “recognize the unique features around the eye” for authentication purposes. If you opt to use this feature during setup, you will need to rescan your face for Face ID. From there, Face ID will be able to unlock your iPhone even when you’re wearing a mask.
Apple warns in the Settings app that Face ID is “most accurate” when it’s set up for full-face recognition only. For Face ID with a mask to work, you must be looking at your device to get it to unlock, and it does not work when wearing sunglasses. Face ID with a mask can authenticate Apple Pay payments and it can be used in lieu of a login and password in apps that support Face ID, unlike the prior Apple Watch Face ID feature.
The new feature is only available with the iPhone 12 or newer. iOS 15.4 has not yet been widely released to the public and is currently in beta testing.

The iPhone 14 is an awful lot like the iPhone 13 that came before, which isn’t a bad thing. It has a similar processorthe A15 Bionic with one additional graphics core, so gaming performance is better. It has the same old notch design, with all the basics you’d want, from MagSafe and wireless charging to IP68 water resistance. One major change? There’s no mini iPhone anymore. Apple has replaced it with the iPhone 14 Plus, identical to the 14 except in size and battery life. I’ve found the 6.1-inch iPhone 14 to be perfectly manageable in one hand, and it roughly lasts a full day with medium to heavy use, but the 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Plus is the same size as the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which is unwieldy. The Plus will likely last a day and a morning, if not a little more . Go for it if you prefer a big screen.
Many of the improvements are in the cameras, which have larger sensors and are powered by a new image-processing pipeline called the Photonic Engine that Apple says produces brighter and sharper photos, but we haven’t noticed much of a difference from the iPhone 13. There are some nice new perks, like how Cinematic mode now films in 4K instead of just 1080p. A new Action video mode lets you capture super-stabilized videos. This year’s iPhone 14 is priced the same as last year’s with a starting price of $799. It’s not cheap, but also not as expensive as the other models.

Transmission Of Private And Technical Data
A privacy experiment conducted by the Washington Post determined that the iPhone transmitted a host of personal data without the user’s knowledge or consent, including phone number, email, exact location, device model and IP address, to “a dozen marketing companies, research firms and other personal data guzzlers” via 5,400 hidden app trackers. Some of the information shared with third parties was found to be in violation of the apps’ own privacy regulations.

The iPhone 13 and 13 mini pick up where last years models left off: they have the same form factor and price range as in 2020, a new processor, and better battery life. Prices start at $699 for the mini with storage options of 128GB twice the base amount offered last year 256GB, and 512GB. Both models sport Apples Super Retina XDR displays and run on the new A15 Bionic chip. Both also feature a 12MP dual-camera system with Ultra Wide and Wide cameras, sensorshift optical image stabilization for sharper photos, and cinematic mode for video. 4K video can be shot at 24 fps, 25 fps, 30 fps, or 60 fps and HDR video recording with Dolby Vision is available at up to 60 fps. Both have larger batteries for up to 2.5 hours more battery life in the iPhone 13 . Pre-orders for the iPhone 13 began Sept. 17, with the phones available in stores on Sept. 24.

If you want the best of the best and you dont mind the larger display, the iPhone 14 Pro Max or the iPhone 14 Pro include one of the best cameras you can find on a smartphone today. Likewise, if youve been dying to return to a smaller phone, Apples iPhone SE 2022 is what youve wanted for years, and its an easy buy at just $429.
For everyone else, the similarities between the iPhone 14 and its Pro counterpart make it challenging to choose. If you dont mind sticking with 512GB or less of storage or advanced camera features, the cheaper iPhone 14 is probably the right option.
Ultimately, your final buying decision should likely focus on your budget limit. Apple announced the XS and XS Max at its September 2018 event in the Steve Jobs Theater. These models were well named, as they were definite upgrades along the lines of the iPhone X. All iPhone 14 models can connect to satellites in emergency situations when cellular and WiFi connections are not available. Apple has designed the new Emergency SOS via satellite feature to allow the iPhone’s antennas to connect to satellites operated by Globalstar.
Satellite communications are available in emergency situations where you can’t connect to WiFi or a cellular tower, and the feature is designed to be used in open spaces with few trees so the iPhone can connect to a satellite that’s in the sky.
Apple has a walkthrough interface that instructs you how to hold the iPhone to connect to a satellite, and the company has developed a compressed messaging protocol because sending data via satellite can take minutes. In an area with no trees, a short message to emergency services can send in as little as 15 seconds.
Emergency SOS via satellite provides a series of important questions that you answer when it is activated, with these questions aimed at getting necessary details to emergency personnel as quickly as possible. The answers that you provide are sent directly to emergency services if text communication is supported in your area, or sent to relay centers staffed by Apple-trained specialists who can call emergency services on the user’s behalf.
Emergency SOS via satellite is free for all iPhone 14 users for two years, and Apple has not yet provided details on what it will cost in the future.
