Could There Be iPhone 14 Release Date Delays
Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stated on Twitter that hes seen some indication of production issues with the new iPhone 14, but these seem to be mostly limited to the LG Display used by the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Max, and even then that Apple would still likely be able to meet production.
I have learned that recently some iPhone 14 panel and memory suppliers have experienced supply issues, but it should have a limited impact on the coming mass production of the iPhone 14 because other suppliers can fill the supply gap.

Still, Ming-Chi believes the iPhone 14 is still on track for a September 2022 release date, and that even the iPhone Max will probably also be ready on time in sufficient quantities. Apple usually go to great lengths to make sure iPhone production matches expectations, given it remains the product that provides the biggest source of revenue, so it seems unlikely there will be much in the way of iPhone 14 release date delays.

The Pro models always offer a little extra something over the other handsets in order to justify their higher price tags, but this year could be a real watershed moment for them. The rumour is that the iPhone 14 Pro models will debut a new, as-yet-unannounced A16 processor, while the non-Pro variants will stick with the A15 Bionic from the iPhone 13 range.
The rumour comes from Ming-Chi Kuo, whose name you’ve probably already seen in this article. That’s because he’s probably the most-respected Apple analyst out there, with one of the best track records when it comes to iPhone predictions.
That would be a pretty big deal, as Apple usually uses the same chipset across its entire iPhone range. In fact, it has done in every iPhone since the iPhone 5S and 5C landed with different processors in 2013. Usually, what differentiates the Pro and non-Pro models are more cores or more memory along with a few extra camera features. Different processors would draw a real line between the two ranges.
So, why would Apple kit its Pro iPhones out with the new chip but not the standard, non-Pro variants? It could be an attempt to justify the Pro models’ higher price tags. Or it could be a purely practical measure given the ongoing chip shortage, which is impacting the supply of everything from phones and tablets to cars and games consoles.

Camera Rumors: A Better Front
Apple may have a few camera upgrades in store for the upcoming iPhone 14. Rumors say the tech giant has chosen a new supplier for its front-facing camera to make a higher-end lens. According to a report from Korean tech site ET News, citing unnamed industry sources, South Korean supplier LG Innotek will provide the new selfie camera for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.
Kuo also shared insights about the iPhone 14’s potential camera upgrades in an investors note reported on by 9to5Mac just after the iPhone 13 launch. In the note, Kuo predicts a hole-punch front camera, making the iPhone 14 notchless, as well as a 48-megapixel wide rear camera for the Pro and Pro Max models, up from 12 megapixels on previous iPhones.
Display analyst Ross Young hypothesizes, however, that the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max will have a hole-and-pill shaped design to accommodate for the front-facing camera and Face ID. The hole cutout is believed to be for the Face ID dot projector, and the pill-shaped cutout holds the front camera and Face ID camera, according to a . Supposedly leaked CAD renders of the iPhone 14, seen by 91mobiles, corroborate this rumor.
Another of the camera features we’re still waiting on is an improved telephoto lens. While the iPhone 13 Pro’s zoom capabilities were given a 3x optical zoom, it still pales in comparison to a lot of competitor flagships, including Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra, which boasts a 10x optical zoom.

The iPhone 13 was introduced to us as the “the most powerful iPhone yet”, but since the latest low-cost iPhone SE shares the same A15 Bionic chipset, it’s a dead cert that the iPhone 14 will offer some extra zip.
Apple watcher Ross Young says the device will feature Apple’s own A16 Bionic processor, which could be one of the first 4nm chips. If that’s the case, expect a serious power boost compared to the 5nm A15 Bionic chip in the current iPhone 13. There’s even talk of TSMC, Apple’s chip supplier, switching to a game-changing 3mn chip in 2022 .
Either way, it seems that users can expect smoother graphics, quicker responses when they make a gesture and slicker 3D maps. We’d also expect Apple to pour some of that power into some new Augmented Reality apps.
There’s is one fly in the ointment, however. The ongoing global chip shortage precipitated by the pandemic has slowed production of everything from games consoles such as the Sony PS5, to cars and smartphones. As a result, there’s some talk of Apple sticking with a 5nm chip, as it did when transitioning from the iPhone 12 to the iPhone 13. The most definitive iPhone 14 release date rumor at this point comes from LeaksApplePro, who claims to have heard that Apple will host a product event in the 37th week of the year. That translates to the week of September 12.
A May report from Jeff Pu, analyst for Haitong International Securities, claims that production delays are affecting the new iPhone 14 Max model, which could push back that phone’s release. More recently, display specialist Ross Young claimed screen shipments for the iPhone 14 Max are lagging behind those for the similarly sized iPhone 14 Pro Max.
If those rumors prove true, Apple might do what it did with the iPhone 12 launch two years ago and stagger the release of this fall’s phones. We’d want to hear more details of production delays before assuming that’s the case, though.

Youre Assuming Its A Live Event
This is the crucial question. If its a virtual event, then either date is possible, but my guess is that Apple will want to either have a full in-person event or a hybrid set-up such as was used for WWDC: a glossy, high-production-value movie made in advance but with an in-person screening of it. This has the advantage that if things took a turn for the worst, Covid-wise, that the in-person element can be cancelled but theres still something to show the world.
I believe that Apple will strain every muscle to have an in-person event but will have its Hollywood-blockbuster recording ready to go.
