Set Your Favorite Email App Or Web Browser As Your Default

It’s been a long time coming, but 2020’s iOS 14 update finally brought the ability to choose your own default apps — at least for email and web browsing. That means when you tap a link or a button for sending an email, your iPhone will automatically launch the web browser or email provider of your choosing rather than Safari or Mail.

To get started, open the Settings menu and select the app you’d like to set as a default . You should then see a button that says Default Mail App or Default Browser App. Tap that option and select the app of your choosing instead of Safari or Mail.

What Devices Have A Headphone/mic Port

It wasn’t long ago that pretty much all Apple devices came with the headphone jack as standard. Apple then famously chose to remove the port from its iPhone 7 and all subsequent models . This ‘courage’ has yet to make its way to the MacBook range, but the latest iPad Pros have now also ditched the useful 3.5mm port.

    Realizing Apple’s dream of a Google-free iPhone

iOS 6 was announced at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference on June 11th, 2012, keeping pace with the annual update cadence that the company has held to since 2008. The new version revealed even mix of surprises and expected changes, but none sent greater shockwaves through the industry than the revamping of one of the most important apps in the platform: Maps.

Maps. Google Maps has long been considered the benchmark in online mapping, a service that Apple had licensed since the original iPhone’s introduction in 2007. Relations between the two Silicon Valley giants have gone south in recent years, though thanks in no small part to a seemingly endless series of legal spats and Apple began buying companies that would help it break free of Google’s ecosystem. In iOS 6, that effort comes to fruition with a thoroughly revamped Maps app that features turn-by-turn navigation for the first time, a 3D “Flyover” mode, and Siri integration. The underlying mapping data is seemingly provided by a variety of sources, but Dutch navigation company TomTom is prominently noted in the new app’s credits.

    What Does Thunderbolt 3 Do

The Thunderbolt 3 port is a little more complicated than most. The reason for the dual name is that the port takes on the physical properties of USB-C as described above, but the whole thing is powered by Thunderbolt 3 technology.

The reason this is highlighted is because the same looking ports can also use the less powerful USB 3.1 protocol with little to differentiate them. In operation though, Thunderbolt 3 is capable of moving data at up to 40Gbps, while USB 3.1 currently tops out at 10Gbps with 20Gbps on the horizon.

As with all previous USB ports, the idea is that it’s a one stop shop for all peripherals, memory sticks, and anything else you want to connect to your device. Thunderbolt 3 ensures that all of the data that travels through the port does so at a blistering speed. It’s also capable of sending power at the same time, allowing users to run two 4K displays directly from the port on your Mac, all while simultaneously delivering the video content to them.

The availability of Thunderbolt 3 devices is slowly emerging, but it lags behind the more widely used USB 3 by quite a margin. This will change in time as the standard is adopted by more manufacturers, so until then there’s always the option of using a USB-C hub to plug all your old peripherals into your Mac.

    iPhone 6 And iPhone 6s

The 6-series handsets saw a full redesign, with rounded-off edges replacing the squarer look of previous phones. The screens are larger than earlier models, too: they measure 4.7in diagonally. The Plus models have still larger screens, of course.

Here’s what the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s look like. This is the iPhone 6s – you can tell because it came in pink as well as the silver, gold and Space Grey offered by the iPhone 6.

Assuming you’re not lucky enough to be looking at a pink model, which is a dead giveaway, look for the letter S on the back, below the word iPhone. This indicates that it’s an iPhone 6s, fairly obviously.

Update From The iPhone X To 12

In September 2017, Apple introduced the iPhone X , a model that pushed the distinctive concept and design of the device to the limit. The 11th generation of the iPhone featured a larger 5.8-inch touch-screen, based on an OLED display manufactured by Samsung, and a design in which all front physical buttons were removed and, apart from a thin rounded bezel made of stainless steel, the whole front of the device coincided with its enormous display.Following the latest trends, Apple equipped the iPhone X, and its iOS 11 operating system, with many new functions, including facial recognition, an updated 3D touch, interactive animated emoji , and more of this kind of stuff.

Compared with the previous iPhones, the X was larger, more expensive, and more funny than ever. This didnt come as a surprise since, as I point out in the paragraph When less is really much less just below, the very design concept of the iPhone doesnt leave much space for a formal evolution other than removing everything apart from the display .This is not bad per se, as long as you introduce real innovation under the hood and try to truly make the device as more useful as possible.

The subsequent generations, the iPhones 11 and 12, didnt change the paradigm the displays grew larger, up to the 6.7 inches of the iPhone12 Pro Max, and the bezels became thinner.

iPhone : What Was The iPhone Like Back In 2007

The iPhone 7 has finally been unveiled, but its not the only iPhone weve been thinking about this fall. As The Cheat Sheet reported shortly after the launch of the iPhone 6s, a lot has changed since the first iPhone, or iPhone 1, as some fans refer to it. Most iPhone fans are aware of the major milestones along the way, like the App Stores introduction with the iPhone 3G, the iPhone 3GSs 3MP camera with video recording abilities, the first Retina display introduced with the iPhone 4, Siris debut on the iPhone 4s, and the switch to the Lightning Port on the iPhone 5. But we rarely talk in detail about the iPhone 1. What was the original iPhone like? What kind of technology and specs did it have? Even though the iPhone 1 has long been considered obsolete, its an interesting part of Apple history. Lets take a look back at the iPhone that started it all.

What Did The First iPhone Really Look Like

    Blaze News

The iPhone design as we know it may have just turned 5 years old, but the very first iPhone could really be decades older.

Mashable and several other techie sites over the years have resurrected images from what looks to be a cross between a regular cradle phone and an iPad. According to Mashable, the 1983 Apple phone was designed by Hartmut Esslinger featuring a built-in screen controlled by a stylus. Mashable reports that the “iPhone that never was” has had a renewed interest after the Associated Press’ recent tour into the undisclosed store house of prototypes and notes from Apple’s early days maintained by Stanford University.

Clearly the now 5-year-and-one-day-old iPhone design made several technological advances since this version. Even at its young age though, the iPhone itself has undergone improvements almost every year.

Rumors of the iPhone 5 have already begun to circulate with hints at a sleeker design or metal back, according to CNET, which keeps regular tabs on iPhone 5 rumors.

    Truedepth Camera And Face Id

For biometric authentication purposes, the iPhone 13 models use Face ID, the facial recognition system that was first introduced in 2017. Face ID components are housed in the TrueDepth camera system in the display notch, which is smaller this year.

Face ID is used across iOS tasks for unlocking the iPhone, allowing access to third-party passcode-protected apps, confirming app purchases, and authenticating Apple Pay payments.

Face ID works through a set of sensors and cameras. A Dot Projector projects more than 30,000 invisible infrared dots onto the surface of the skin to create a 3D facial scan that maps the curves and planes of each face, with the scan read by an infrared camera.

The facial depth map is relayed to the A15 chip where it is transformed into a mathematical model that the iPhone uses to authenticate identity. Face ID works in low light and in the dark, and with hats, beards, glasses, sunglasses, scarves, and other accessories that partially obscure the face.

For face masks, which do not work with Face ID, there’s an “Unlock with Apple Watch” feature for convenience. Unlock with Apple Watch allows iPhone users to take advantage of an unlocked and authenticated Apple Watch as a secondary authentication measure to unlock their devices when wearing a mask. It can’t be used to authenticate Apple Pay or App Store purchases, and it can’t unlock apps that require a Face ID scan. In these situations, a mask needs to be removed or a passcode needs to be used instead.

The Story Of The Original iPhone That Nobody Thought Was Possible

When the iPhone shipped to customers on June 29, 2007, the first generation of the device that would change the world was missing a lot of what we now expect in an iPhone, but it set up the road map for Apple that continues to this day.

The first generation iPhone was, in many days, quite different than the ones we see in use today. For one thing, it was small, just 4.5 inches by 2.4 inches. By comparison, the iPhone XS Max launched in 2018 is 6.2 inches by 3.05 inches.

It also had no third-party apps whatsoever, and it topped out at 16GB of flash memory. The first iPhone was exclusive to AT& T, and ran only on AT& T’s notoriously slow and unreliable EDGE GSM network.

But despite all of its shortcomings, relative to today, that first iPhone was hugely important. It was Apple’s entry into a new category, at a time when the company’s singular handheld device was the iPod.

The iPhone was the debut of the touchscreen, which would soon become standard in the category. Sure, there had been smartphones available from established manufacturers before, but they had physical keyboards and a much smaller screen.

    The Camera Is Going Diagonal

Camera upgrades for the iPhone 13 are currently expected to be minimal, with the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max likely to be the handsets that get major changes to their rear cameras.

The design of the camera on the iPhone 13 is widely rumored to be changing though, and the biggest likely change will be the lenses moving to a diagonal design rather than how they look on the iPhone 12.

It’s also expected that the iPhone 13 camera block will jut out from the rear of the phone more too. One leak says it’ll be 2.51mm thick, which is compared to a thickness of 1.5mm on the iPhone 12.
