Here’s Why The iPhone Se 5g Will Outsell Its Android Rivals

iPhone SE (2022) review

Apple announced the 5G-enabled version of the iPhone SE earlier this week, and at the outset, it doesn’t look all that different from its predecessor that launched two years ago. That’s by design the iPhone SE is aimed at users that want a familiar iPhone experience, so it features a physical home button with integrated Touch ID and a form factor that makes it easy to use one-handed.

With iPhones getting taller, wider, and more complex with every new generation, the iPhone SE is designed to deliver the basics while still giving you a great camera and the latest internal hardware.

While there’s no change in the design this time around, the iPhone SE 5G packs the latest A15 Bionic chipset and includes 5G connectivity. The rest of the hardware is identical to the 2020 iPhone SE: the base model starts off at a pitifully low 64GB, you get a single 12MP camera at the back, 7MP front shooter, and an 1821mAh battery with 18W fast charging.

The big talking point here is 5G connectivity the iPhone SE has global 5G bands, and that makes it the obvious choice for iPhone 7/8 users that have yet to make the switch to the connectivity standard.

With the iPhone SE 5G, Apple is betting on familiarity as a differentiator.

Apple didn’t make too many changes with the iPhone SE 5G because it didn’t need to the iPhone SE was among the ten best-selling phones of 2021, and by offering 5G connectivity with this year’s model, Apple is offering the ideal upgrade path for older iPhone users.

The 5g iPhone Se Will Be For Carriers Not Customers

Apple is widely expected to release a new iPhone SE model this week, the companys third and its quickest update yet for its cheapest line of smartphones.

Apples release cycle for the SE line is accelerating: the original iPhone SE was released in 2016 as an entry-level option for the iPhone lineup, priced at just $399 compared to the $649 iPhone 6s model that preceded it a few months before. The second-generation model followed four years later, in 2020.

Now, just two years later, Apple is preparing to release its third-generation iPhone SE, one thats rumored to offer broadly the same design as the 2020 SE, but with an upgraded processor and camera from the 2020 model, along with 5G.

And its that final detail the addition of 5G that seems to reveal why Apple is upgrading the iPhone SE this early: its an upgrade for the carriers, not the customers.

      5G still isnt a revolution in 2022

While 5G isnt worthless, in 2022, its not the revolutionary, must-have technology that cell carriers are pitching it as. Speeds are still lackluster in most cases, requiring very specific conditions with mmWave networks or the still-nascent mid-band networks that most of the USs main carriers are still struggling to roll out. Several years in, and 5G is still more a marketing note than a revolutionary change to how most people use the internet on the go.

      Same Boring Design And Colors

I included design on my list of top features for the iPhone SE 3 because some people really enjoy the smaller form factor and physical Home button. But for those of you who are primarily attracted to the iPhone SE 3 due to its price, the old long-in-the-tooth iPhone 8-era design can be seen as a negative. The screen, at 4.7-inches, is smaller than the iPhone mini, and it genuinely feels cramped to use, while the large bezels make the device feel ten years old.

On top of that, the colors of the iPhone SE are pretty boring, too. The colors might have different names starlight and midnight and slightly different hues, but I wish Apple would experiment with less pedestrian colorways.

      iPhone Se 2022 Battery

Does the new iPhone SE support 5G?

Up to 2 hours of extra video playback over the iPhone SE 2nd Gen that is what Apple claims on its website. A little digging around on the internet revealed a gain of 200mAh of extra capacity over the iPhone SE 2nd Gen’s battery. The real world result? It is still no battery champ like the iPhone 13 but it now crawls into the full-day battery territory when used in 4G network all day. Note this, since 5G networks are bound to offer higher battery drain.

With my moderate use pattern involving the usual social media browsing, taking 2 hours of calls on an average daily, music streaming, and some good amount of still photography, the iPhone SE 3rd Gen can now easily make it to the end of the day, with 20-25 percent battery left. On my 2nd Gen iPhone SE, it needed a mid-day refill under the same use case.

You will need the 20W Apple charger to fill up its battery the fastest, and a 0-50 percent recharge can be done within 30 minutes. From 50-100 percent, you will need to wait at least an hour. This is not the fastest charging mechanism but it does the work. I still recommend keeping a power bank handy while venturing outdoors for a whole day.

Get The iPhone Se 2020 If You Like Compact Phones

You just have to look around you to see that phone screen sizes are growing ever larger. The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, for instance features a 6.9-inch screen, while even the smallest member of the Galaxy S20 family boasts a display that’s larger than 6 inches. So heavy is the demand for expansive smartphone screens that companies are now trying to develop foldable phones with displays that fold out into even larger panels.

And if you’re someone with tiny hands like me, you look at these comically oversized smartphones and shake your head, wondering if there’s even a place for folks like us in this Bigger Must Be Better world.

Since my current phone became unreliable, I’ve been using the 6.5-inch iPhone 11 Pro Max as a replacement. And having to fumble my way with this super-sized iPhone has only cemented my disdain for phablets. It’s impossible for me to use this phone one-handed. The iPhone 11 Pro Max slips out of my tiny mitts with depressing frequency. When I put it into a pocket, I feel like I’m lugging around a flat-panel TV.

I will not have that problem with the iPhone SE 2020. Even though it’s larger than the original 4-inch model, the new 4.7-inch phone should fit comfortably in my hand and even more comfortably in my pocket. Despite the industry push toward large screens, there’s still a thirst out for compact phones, and the iPhone SE figures to immediately land on our list of the best small phones.

      iPhone Se: Design And Display

Currently, the most reliable analysts expect the next iPhone SE to physically resemble the current model. Thats perhaps a little disappointingthe iPhone SE is based on the body of the iPhone 8, which is now discontinued. However, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo believes Apple plans to move ahead with another SE model to feature the 4.7-inch LCD display, a Home button with Touch ID, and no Face ID. In October, Ross Young of Display Supply Chain Consultants reported that the next iPhone SE will have the same 4.7-inch display as the current model, adding that the rumored iPhone SE with a 6.1-inch LCD is now pushed to 2024.

In other words, the next iPhone SE is once again rumored to be based on the iPhone 8s shell, with select new components. Nikkei Asia reported in July that the next SE will look like a refreshed version of the iPhone 8 and have a 4.7-inch liquid crystal diode display.

Apple is also said to be working on an updated version of the iPhone 11, with an LCD display between 5.7 inches and 6.1 inches and Touch ID either in the display or part of the power button, but likely for a 2023 or 2024 release. Apple still sells the iPhone 11 for $499 and a new SE with a similar design would directly compete with it at a lower price.

A Twitter account claiming to be owned by Ming-Chi Kuo says the phone will have the same colors as the current model.

      The new iPhone SE | A15 Bionic + 5G | Apple

If it were just about saving money, the iPhone SE 2020 would already be a compelling buy. But you’re getting a lot of features for just $399.

For starters, the iPhone SE has the A13 Bionic chipset, the same one powering Apple’s iPhone 11 lineup. The A13 has proven to be the best-performing mobile processor we’ve tested, beating out even the newer Snapdragon 865 in head-to-head benchmarks. Until the iPhone SE came along, you’d have to pay at least $699 for an iPhone 11 to enjoy that kind of power. Now you can have it for $300 less.

The iPhone SE includes other niceties you normally wouldn’t expect in a sub-$400 phone, including support for wireless charging. That feature’s MIA in the comparably priced and not expected to appear in the when Google rolls out that rumored phone in a few months.

You’re only getting a single rear camera with the iPhone SE, but the 12-megapixel lens is augmented by the A13’s built-in Neural Engine. So expect a lot of computational photography to compensate for what a second camera would normally provide.

The third generation of the pocket-friendly Apple iPhone SE got a major upgrade in the form of 5G connectivity. The iPhone SE 5G antenna supports the same expanded suite of 5G bands as the iPhone 13, but for a fraction of the price. Along with 5G, iPhone SE also features the uber-powerful A15 Bionic chip, meaning you’ll get the same performance out of your cheap iPhone as you would from much more expensive models. And at just 4.7 inches, fans of the cult-favorite iPhone 8 will be extremely pleased with the iPhone SE’s petite size.

However, the Un-carrier continues to repurpose Sprint’s mid-band 5G network for its own customers following the two brands’ merger, and both AT& T and Verizon are investing heavily in expanding their low- and mid-band networks to bring 5G to more customers.

A trade-off for having the most 5G coverage is that T-Mobiles 5G speeds are the slowest of the majors, testing around 49Mbps, according to Open Signal. That said, T-Mobiles speeds dont fall too far behind AT& Ts, which tests at about 61Mbps. These 5G speeds are only about 1.7 and 1.8 times faster than their respective 4G LTE speeds, which means they have plenty of room to improve. Contrast that with Verizons 5G speeds, which reach 495Mbpsnearly 18 times faster than its 4G LTE speeds.

Coverage information is collected from carriers and other third party sources. This is approximate coverage only and does not include indoor coverage. Actual speed and performance depends on your location and device. Local conditions and things like natural and artificial physical features of an area all affect your reception.

The third-generation iPhone SE could launch today costing as little as $300!

The mobile industry is poised for the arrival of a third-generation iPhone SE with 5G support, with reports suggesting it will be the main announcement at Apple’s online launch today . P Morgan analysts, according to Reuters , have enthusiastically predicted that the new phone has the potential to attract more than a billion non-premium Android users.

We are more likely to believe the imminent launch rumors now French site Consomac , via TechRadar , has spotted that a iPhone believed to be the iPhone SE 3 has been certified by the Eurasian Economic Commission a Russian regulator. With invites now being sent out for the virtual press conference from Cupertino, we’d hope that the third-generation iPhone SE will be the headline product at the presentation.

Apple iPhone SE 2020 Launched: India Price, Top Features, Key ...

It’s Apple’s attempt at providing an affordable iPhone option, with more cut-down specs than the other phones launched in 2020 but with a much lower price. Those specs include a 4.7-inch display, an Apple A13 processor and a single 12-megapixel rear camera. Storage starts at 64GB, it supports Qi wireless charging and there’s no 5G.

The iPhone SE 2020 is by far the cheapest iPhone you can buy directly from Apple.

For The iPhone Se Is 3 The Magic Number

The iPhone SE will be priced to sell, coming in considerably cheaper than the iPhone 14. Although some reports say it’ll be called the iPhone SE 3, that’s believed to be a larger model due in 2024: this SE may be called the iPhone SE Plus, because Apple’s naming strategy doesn’t make sense any more.

Inside it’s effectively an iPhone 13: an Apple A15 processor with 5G and the same performance. But the outside is expected to remain the same as the current generation, thick bezels and all: the panel is expected to remain 4.7 inches and LCD rather than the OLED displays of other iPhones. Don’t expect a mini-LED iPhone SE any time soon.

So it’s not the greatest display and nobody’s going to think it’s as exciting as a Samsung Galaxy S21. But it doesn’t need to be. It just needs to be a really good phone, and if you’re not wedded to big displays or actively dislike them if you do, check out our guide to the best small phones getting what’s effectively an iPhone 13 mini for considerably less cash ticks all the right boxes.

More Storage In The Base Model

The 2022 iPhone SE got its debut at Apple’s Peek Performance event.

Apple increased the iPhone 13 lineup’s base storage capacity up to 128GB from 64GB. Unfortunately, that approach didn’t trickle down to the new iPhone SE, which starts at 64GB of storage. You could argue that the 128GB iPhone SE, which costs $479, is hundreds of dollars cheaper than the base iPhone 13. But Apple is still behind its competitors in this regard: Samsung’s $400 Galaxy A42 5G, comes with 128GB of internal storage, as does Google’s $449 Pixel 5A with 5G.
