An iPhones home screen looks very different under iOS 14, and offers far more potential for customisation.
App Library is a new and efficient way of organising your apps.
Instead of scrolling through multiple pages, you can now access a single view that automatically arranges your apps according to smart categories: Entertainment, Health & Fitness, Social and Apple Arcade were among the ones shown in the demo.
Each category page looks like a folder on the App Library page, but with one slight different: the icons arent all the same size. The apps youve used most often or recently are larger, so theyre easier to launch with one tap. And if you dont want to see all of your apps on the library screen, you can choose to hide app pages you no longer need.
Two categories at the top are slightly different: Suggestions, which appears to operate in the same intelligent way as Siri App Suggestions in the Notification Centre, and Recently Added.
We already had Widgets in iOS 13 in fact they were added as long ago as iOS 8 but they used to be confined to the Notification Centre. In iOS 14, at long last, they come to the home screen.
Its as simple as drag-and-drop: open the widgets draw and drag your chosen widget to wherever you want it to sit on the home page. Apple showed widgets that allow you to choose from multiple sizes taking up the space of four or eight app icons but we dont know if this will available for all of them.

Older Ios Still Getting Security Patches
This isnt the first security update Apple has quietly released for older devices to patch up vulnerabilities it sent out iOS 12.5.3 in May to fix a few memory corruption issues and pack along some memory optimization tweaks, iOS 12.5.2 in March, and iOS 12.5.1 in January, with even more updates going back through 2020 for the same devices left behind by iOS 13, per Apples security log.
While all these and the new iOS 12.5.4 are small security fixes without feature upgrades, theyre still helpful support for older phones and tablets that Apple is releasing without much fanfare. Hopefully the company continues to do so for folks who arent ready or are unable to upgrade to newer devices.

When iOS 15 was released last year, it actually disappointed a lot of people. Apart from a reworked and somewhat improved notification centre, a redesigned Safari and the introduction of Memojis, there was nothing that could really entice users.
With iOS 16 though, rumour has it that Apple is adding a ton of new features that will have iPhone users all excited. These new features include the introduction of interactive widgets, quick action shortcuts right on the lock screen, and a number of health-tracking features.
However, not all iOS devices that run on iOS 15 will be getting the iOS 16 update. As per several reports, the iPhone 6S, the iPhone 6S Plus, and the 2016 iPhone SE will not be getting the iOS 16 update. The interesting thing to note is that all these devices, do support the latest versions of iOS 15.
As disappointing as the news may be to some users, it does make sense. Last year, Apple took many people by surprise when it launched iOS 15 for all devices that ran on iOS 14.
However, with mobile operating systems becoming more demanding, and the iOS 16 being heavier and more feature-rich, the hardware and the computing power of the older devices just might not be enough.

Improved Camera With Portrait Mode
Apple’s older iPhones all had single-lens rear cameras, and the same is true of the 2020 iPhone SE. It’s equipped with a 12-megapixel wide-angle camera that isn’t quite as good as the wide-angle camera in the iPhone 11, but it’s close.
Though there’s still a single-lens camera, Apple is using improved sensor technology in its modern iPhones, which means you’re going to see better photos from the iPhone SE than you see from the iPhone 6s and other older iPhones. The camera in the SE is better than the camera in the iPhone 8, and seems to be similar to the camera in the iPhone XR.
People coming to the 2020 iPhone SE from an older iPhone can expect bright, vivid photos with true-to-life colors and Smart HDR support, which means much better detail in the areas of the photos that are bright and dark. It’s not as good as the flagship iPhones at low light photography , but it’s a notable improvement over older devices.
That said, if photography is what you’re going for, you might want to take a look at the iPhone 11 as it has two-lens setup with an ultra wide-angle lens, but for every day use, the SE works great. It’s a fantastic smartphone camera at its price point.
As for video, the iPhone SE offers a lot for the asking price. It’s able to shoot 4K video at 60fps, the same as Apple’s flagship iPhones, with optical image stabilization and some other useful features like QuickTake video for capturing a quick video by holding down the shutter button while in photo mode.

iPhone 12 And 12 Mini
With support for 5G being its crown jewel feature, the $729 iPhone 12 marked the beginning of a new generation of iPhone. It has a flat-sided design with matte aluminum sides, a 6.1-inch OLED screen, an A14 Bionic chip, support for MagSafe charging and Apple’s Ceramic Shield covering on the front to help reduce scratches and damage from drops.The iPhone 12 Mini is simply a smaller version of the 12 with a 5.4-inch display and a price tag that’s $100 less.
The selfie, wide and ultrawide cameras on the iPhone 12 and 12 Mini are good, but definitely a step down from those on the newer iPhone 13 and 13 Mini. If you choose to get an iPhone 12 or 12 Mini and can afford to pay $50 more, I recommend upgrading from 64GB of storage to 128GB. Apple doesn’t really care what you think. Not only will it sell a stand for its newest Pro Display XDR monitor for $1,000 a pop, it’s also making a bunch of older iPhones obsolete. At the company’s WWDC conference held in San Jose, California, the tech giant unveiled two mobile updates on Monday: iOS 13 for iPhones and iPadOS for iPadtablets. While the operating systems offer several new features, iOS 13 won’t be coming to all Apple devices, including 2014’s iPhone 6. These phones will essentially be left out from getting the latest-and-greatest in terms of software, from Apple.
Both iOS 13 and iPadOS have a new dark mode option for interfaces and a redesigned Photos app. You’ll also get more customization options for Memoji on iOS 13 and text-editing gestures for iPadOS. The OS’ will be available in the fall and iOS 13 will roll out to a handful of iPhones ranging from the new iPhone XS phones to iPhone 6S and iPhone SE.
But again, there are other iPhones and iPads that will not be able to receive the iOS 13 and iPadOS updates, even though these devices can run the penultimate iOS 12 software.

Apple’s new iOS 14 operating system is compatible with many older iPhones, including the original iPhone SE, the iPhone 6s, and the iPhone 6s Plus, meaning the new update works with iPhones that are five years old and newer.

Apps Reverting To Defaults
A few days after the arrival of iOS 14 users were complaining of a bug that could revert apps to their defaults.
Prior to iOS 14 it wasnt possible to choose which browser would be your default, if you clicked a link it would automatically open in Safari. As of iOS 14 it is now possible to set different default apps, alternatives to Safari and Mail can be used instead.
However, its emerged that should you select a different browser or email app if the iPhone is shutdown once it restarts it will have defaulted back to the old default apps.
Apples fixed this bug in iOS 14.0.1. However, by iOS 14.1 it became apparent that there was still a problem with the function. It appears that default apps setting will be reset if your app is updated. For example, if a software update for Gmail is installed Gmail will no longer be your default email app and the system will default back to Apple Mail.
