Beginners Guide To iPhone 13 – How To Use The iPhone 13 Pro Max Tutorial

The iPhone 12 is only 12 months old at the time of writing. This means, if you buy any of Apples iPhone 12 models in 2021 or 2022, youll receive iOS updates for years to come potentially six or seven years worth, taking you into 2027 or 2028 at the latest.

And because Apples iPhone 13 range is now official, the price of Apples iPhone 12 range has gone down. Apple has also discontinued the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. For this reason, there are now plenty of really good deals available for Apples 2020 iPhones.

If youre in the UK, Three has some outstanding offers for the iPhone 12 series prices start from around £54 a month for the Pro Max model. And you get 5G and one of the best cameras ever. Thats great value, especially when compared to the cost of the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

A Leap In Battery Life

The iPhone 13’s battery lasted a lot longer than my iPhone 12 Pro’s battery. Typically, at the end of the day, the iPhone 12 Pro would be at 10-20 percent the iPhone 13 was around 40 percent every night.

The battery on my old phone is in perfect condition, and I copied and used the exact same apps on the new phone, so there should be no discrepancies. The iPhone 13 simply has a longer-lasting battery, and not by a small amount.

I had a little less time with the iPhone mini, but it also did well, lasting me through the day with roughly 20 percent battery left. So, back to where I was with my old phone, but still better than having to charge it mid-day.

While everyone’s preferences regarding smartphones are slightly different, battery life is the one feature that’s important to everyone. The iPhone 13 is an all-day phone, meaning I can charge it overnight and it’ll last me into the next day.

This is also where the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini differ. The mini also has a much-improved battery life compared to the last generation, but it’s not as good as its bigger brother. If you’re in love with its size after using humongous phones for years, I am it’s a good option, but do know that it might not last a full day of intense usage.

Software: Ios 15 Is Smooth As Butter

The iPhone 13 runs iOS 15 as of this writing, although by the time you read get it, it might be running iOS 16, 17, or 18. That’s one of the iPhone’s strengths: It’s going to be supported in software for at least five years. So iOS 15 isn’t a differentiator for the iPhone 13you’ll get the same OS features on an iPhone 12, 11, or XR.

We’ll have a full iOS 15 review soon, but it isn’t a huge change from iOS 14here are some of its top new features. The most aggressive change I found is Apple’s constant attempts to destroy third-party apps’ reliance on targeted advertising.

Compared with Android, I’m struck by how smooth the iOS interface continues to be, especially in scrolling and task switching. But it’s more difficult to use than Android when it comes to sorting and dealing with notifications, sharing information between third-party apps such as multiple photo/video editors, and arranging useful information on your home screen.

As always, the more deeply you bake yourself into Apple’s ecosystem, the better. iPhones very badly want to back up your photos and data on iCloud, have you play games on Apple Arcade, and listen to Apple Musicall for a $14.95/month Apple One subscription. You can certainly populate an iPhone primarily with Google or Microsoft services, but you may have fewer options to easily share your content and will find your cloud services less closely plumbed into the OS.

Not Groundbreaking But It’s Best iPhone For Most People

The iPhone 13 is a refinement, not a revolution. Compared side by side with the iPhone 12, it’s not going to shock you with anything other than stellar battery life. That said, the additional juice is absolutely worth the $100 premium over the still-on-sale iPhone 12 or the iPhone 13 mini, making the standard iPhone 13 our Editors’ Choice winner. It’s about having less stress, and in 2021, nobody needs more stress. The iPhone 13 Pro Max, meanwhile, should be the choice for professional and wannabe-pro content creators who rely on iPhones to add beauty and entertainment to the world. Its additional zoom lens, big screen for viewing and editing content, and nearly immortal battery life makes it a true “pro” content creation studio. So this year, go big. You won’t regret it.

iPhone 13 Models Compared: Every Big Difference From Price To Size

How does the iPhone 13 stack up against the iPhone 13 Pro? What about the Mini and Pro Max? Here’s what you should know.

Apple’s iOS 16 is in its developer beta, and it promises to bring a bunch of upgrades to your iPhone, including new ways to customize your lock screen and edit iMessage texts. But if you think your iPhone is in need of more than a software update , you may consider purchasing a new one.

Choosing the best iPhone for you can be difficult. First, you need to decide whether you want to wait for Apple’s iPhone 14, which is expected to be released this fall, or buy an iPhone 13, iPhone 12 or iPhone SE 3 now. Then, if you narrowed it down to the iPhone 13, there are four different models to pick from — the iPhone 13, 13 Mini, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. Not to mention, each model comes in different colors and storage options, too. With all those choices, finding the perfect iPhone 13 fit can be confusing, but we’re here to help.

Each of the four iPhone 13 models run Apple’s latest iOS, which is currently iOS 15.5, and will work with iOS 16. They also feature camera upgrades, more storage, an A15 Bionic processor and some design tweaks that make them stand apart from 2020’s iPhone 12.

The iPhone 13 lineup is here, but how do the different models compare? We’ll explain.

Design: Practical And Compact

Thanks to its 5.4-inch display, the iPhone 13 mini measures just 131.5 x 64.2 x 7.65 millimeters and tips the scales at a mere 140 grams. The smartphone is also waterproof according to its IP68 certification, featuring the typical iPhone mute button, and comes with a glass back.

What I liked:

  • Handy and space-saving thanks to the mini form factor.
  • Comfortable to use with just one hand.
  • The mute switch is nice to “fidget” with.

What I didn’t like:

  • Very slippery without a cover.
  • Microphones are easily covered during hands-free calls.
  • Countless accidental screenshots due to the buttons’ positions.

Some time ago, I already penned a rather controversial comment about small smartphones. I still think that small handsets are less prevalent in everyday life. The iPhone is hardly noticeable in the trouser and jacket pockets, always remaining firmly in my grip and can be operated comfortably with only one hand. In addition, the handset is ultra-light at 140 grams.

Apple seals its phone against water and dust according to the IP68 certification. In other words, the smartphone can survive for up to 30 minutes in water up to 6 meters deep. This means I can indulge in my addiction of shifting the mute button back and forth in my pants pocket when I feel bored while swimming. A great fidget spinner replacement thanks to the precise vibration motor!

The Most Important iPhone Lifespan Factor: Software Updates

Technically, as long as your iPhone turns on and functions, it’s within its lifespan. But practically, there are a few ways to determine if your iPhone is still within its useful life chief among them is how long it receives iOS and security updates from Apple.

Every eligible iPhone gets software updates shortly after they become available, whether it’s a major revision, like iOS 15, or a minor release to fix bugs, like iOS 15.0.1. Installing these not only brings new features to your iPhone, but also patches security issues to keep your device secure.

Over time, Apple drops support for older iPhone models. Spending time to make sure a new release works on an aging device that few people use isn’t worth it for any company. Plus, the weaker hardware of older iPhone models can’t keep up with the requirements of newer iOS versions.

Apple uses the “vintage” and “obsolete” labels for its older devices. An Apple device is considered obsolete when the company stopped distributing it for sale over seven years agonote that this is not the same as its initial release date.

At this point, Apple does not offer hardware support or the device, and service providers can’t order parts for them. As of this writing, the iPhone 4S and older are considered obsolete.

No Shiny New Things But That Doesn’t Matter

iPhone 13 Mini – Real Day In The Life Review (Battery & Camera Test)

In this review, I set out to answer three basic questions. Are the iPhone 13 and 13 mini good phones on their own? Are they a good upgrade from the earlier generation? And finally, how do they compare to Apple’s Pro models?

On the first count, the answer is simple: Both the iPhone 13 and 13 mini are great phones. They’ll last you through the day , they have Apple’s latest A15 Bionic chip, meaning they are very fast now and will likely be fast enough in 3 to 4 years, and they start at 128GB, a big leap for Apple and plenty of space for most users. Sure, you can get an Android with a lower price tag and better battery life, but Apple’s ecosystem and the longevity of its phones thanks to their fast chips and continuous upgrades make the iPhone 13 and 13 mini a great option.

Upgrading from the iPhone 12 or 12 mini wouldn’t be worth it if not for the improved battery life and starting storage capacity. For those reasons, and especially if you can get a good deal from your carrier, you should definitely consider switching to Apple’s latest.

Finally, after using the iPhone 13 and 13 mini for the better part of a week, I didn’t really miss many of the options from Apple’s Pro line. The camera was a step back, but such a gentle one, that I barely noticed it. The upgraded display, the lidar, the slightly fancier materials on the Pro none of that makes a huge difference. Put it all together and yes, the Pro is a better phone, but the iPhone 13 is a better deal.

Apple iPhone 13 Mini Performance Benchmarks

You can edit 4K videos at 60 frames per second in a buttery smooth manner on the tiny device, edit captured RAW pictures, and enjoy all current mobile games in maximum quality whenever you let your hair down. Apple has not established itself as a house brand for many creatives for nothing, since the manufacturer does not cut corners either. For example, the iPhone 13 mini proved to be a usable voice-over microphone at MWC 2022.

However, it is the company’s principles that are annoying when it comes to everyday use. For example, if I want to edit recorded videos, I cannot simply remove a microSD card like in Sony’s Xperia Pro-I, but have to connect the phone via cable, import the videos via Photos, and then export them as video files once again through the Photos app. There are just so many hoops to jump through!

Even though the missing storage expansion option is not as relevant in terms of storage technology as it is in the iPhone SE 2022, the whole thing is still inconvenient. At the same time, I praise Apple for the decision to let the storage variants start at 128 GB in the iPhone 13 series. This increases the price-to-performance ratio compared to the previous year.

Performance: iPhone Is As iPhone Does

Apple’s A15 CPU is made on the same 5nm process as the previous A14. Apple says that its 6-core CPU and 4-core GPU have the fastest performance ever.

On the Geekbench benchmark, I only saw an 8% improvement in single-core CPU performance and a 13% improvement in GPU performance over the iPhone 12. However, I did see a much bigger improvement in the real-world Basemark web browser benchmark, which jumped from 766.86 to 1042.93 as the phone sped through web page loads.

The fact is, Apple’s tight integration between hardware and software always leads to new iPhones having impeccable performance, at least at the start. It’s years down the road when they may run into trouble. Nothing I could throw at the iPhone 13 in its first week fazed it, from Microsoft Office to Genshin Impact.

See How We Test Phones

The iPhone 13 and 13 mini have the same performance. The 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max both add a fifth GPU core, which in our benchmarks also led to disproportionately better test performance. But if apps run just fine with the four GPU cores, why do you need the fifth core? It’s for the 120Hz screen, one of the difference-making features offered by the pricier Pro series.

We have many more details on performance in our full iPhone 13 benchmarking story.

A Fast Processor And Long Battery Life

It was hard to make the 13 Pro or 13 Pro Max slow down during our testing. We could be switching Focus modes, have upward of 40 applications open in the background and do all this while a FaceTime call was running on top. We had no issues running applications like Slack, Trello, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok, Outlook, Word, Photoshop Express, Pixelmator, Catalyst Black, RFS and all the preinstalled ones.

You just wont see drastic improvements over the 12 Mini, 12, 12 Pro or 12 Pro Max an image export might finish a second or two faster, and games will open up about three seconds faster for larger titles. They all feel very seamless, but the gains are more evident with an iPhone 11 or older, especially with intensive tasks.

One area with a more significant leap is with battery life. Prior to launch, the company promised that the 13 Pro would be an hour and a half longer than the 12 Pro, and the 13 Pro Max would last two and a half hours longer than the 12 Pro Max. In our real-world usage, weve gotten 16 hours of battery life.

Both devices can be charged via a Lightning cable or wirelessly through MagSafe or the Qi standard.

iPhone 13 Mini After 90 Days: Long

iPhone 13 Mini Price in India: Apple iPhone 13 Mini Image Leak: Check ...

After several months of using the iPhone 13 mini as a daily driver, it went through quite a lot in my pocket. After snapping 668 photos, shooting 366 videos, going through two flights and countless hours of use, I will now summarize how this 5.4-inch phone performs in everyday life. The compact size of the handset has more positive than negative aspects.

PIT

  • Fantastic size for everyday use
  • Good photo quality
  • Battery life could be better
  • Display stuck at 60 Hertz
  • No memory expansion options
  • Lightning connector is annoying

The A15 Bionic Is An Absolute Beast Of An Soc

Apples A15 Bionic chip really is a beast. For typical smartphone things like surfing the web or going on Instagram, its complete overkill. But for power users, its undeniably powerful. For example, take Cinematic Mode, the new software feature available on all four iPhone 13s. Its basically portrait mode for video, which other phone brands have tried, to mostly bad results. But on the iPhone 13 phones, the software-generated bokeh is actually not bad-looking. Sure, a trained eye, or a hardcore professional videographer will likely still scoff at the fake bokeh, but its convincing enough for me and Id bet most average smartphone users. The extra depth-of-field effect from the blurred background adds separation between subject and background for a more cinematic vibe.

But its not just that the A15 Bionic can produce this blur more convincingly than other phones, its also the fact that everything can be adjusted in real-time or after the shot. I can, for example, make the bokeh stronger or weaker, or remove it entirely. I can even change focus points after the fact. On top of that, the Neural Engine inside the A15 Bionic is so powerful it can even automatically track faces and movements.

For example, in the below footage, you can see that the focus is on my face, but when I turn to look at another face, the focus switches to that face. This requires an insane amount of real-time processing power that Im not sure any other SoC can pull off.
